OK, so who honestly thinks that Alice Powell has any chance of driving a Caterham at Abu Dhabi? Strange that the Daily Mail present it as pretty much a done deal, and that all she has to do is pack her bags then "line up alongside Lewis Hamilton".

Possibly the most useless journalism I've seen, unworthy even of The Mail.
Ha - Alice is an average club driver - but I might as well announce that I'm racing at Abu Dhabi in fact it's more likely. At least I have a flight and a hotel booked wink

Other than as a guest of a team with appropriate pass? No way she could race. Maybe FP1, I think that can be used towards gaining a SL as can participation in some feeder series.

My guess is a bit of cheap publicity for both her and Caterham?

clearly not going to happen, quite apart from her having no licence, or experience of anything remotely comparable (like GP2 or WSR etc).

Might have more legs if uncle had £2+m to throw at it.

The point I was making is that to the average non-F1 geek, the Mail's "lining up alongside Lewis Hamilton" will be read as "is in the race with Lewis Hamilton". Which, as we know, is not even slightly possible, as you only line up at the start of the race.

According to Planet F1, pre-administration Caterham wanted 300,000 Euro for a P1 session. Leaving mere details such as a suitable licence aside, would such an amount be money well spent for an aspiring driver and her backers?

She has a shock coming to her if she gets a drive in FP1, according to the BBC article, she thinks the current V6's only put out 600bhp...

64kg according to her site, so wouldn't be the lightest or the heaviest on the grid.

Does she seem fit enough to stand the G forces or strong enough to push on the brakes?

If Montoya could squeeze in to an F1 car for six seasons then I'm sure anyone can.

why?

600 is about right for the Renault V6 engine (the other 120 is from the MGU-K)

Not the point. I saw her race at Snetterton in the F3 cup last year. She wrecked her car, taking out another competitor, twice in subsequent races on the same weekend. As the original post says, she's an average club driver, and that's being kind.

At the same meeting, one of her rivals, whose car was wrecked in the first of the crashes, could have raced in another car in the second race. Powell was the only other competitor who wouldn't agree, so he didn't get to. Her team manager blamed grandad for the blocking; he's her main (only?) backer and seems to have more money than sense.

The Daily Mail... there is a whole other topic, I like how they think they are a source of "news" sweet :-)

Good on her Grand Father for having the cheek- if you don't ask, you don't get and all that but £35K?! That is unlikely to buy a good seat to watch at the track let alone in the car!

Maybe she has got the 3rd car seat with Mclaren and needs the miles, more silly season rumors :-)
