From @danielt_johnson Daily Telegraph F1 correspondent

Marussia have ceased trading. Will not be in Abu Dhabi. Full confirmation imminent. Staff made redundant. Sad day for the team.

Seems crazy - they had a pot of money for coming 9th (assuming Sauber don't score a point)

Yep all over :-(

There just wasn't a deal on the table to cover the debt (about £104M) so that's that. Great team, great people and a real shame.

They aren't the first and they most definitely won't be the last.

Marussia cease but a Manor still open?

They've entered for next year?

Anyway, massive shame for the guys who built a pretty good car this year!

Its almost worse because of what happened to Jules, he wrung the neck off that car......and all for what?
People talk of DR and LH, but i'd say the person driving the balls of his car the most at any given race was Jules..... Hope one day we will see him in one of the best cars.

What a tragic waste and for the team to fold is just added to the senselessness of it all....

BBC said:
Marussia currently lie ninth in the championship thanks to the two points Bianchi scored by finishing ninth in Monaco.
They will retain that place officially, but when it comes to allocating the prize money from this season, the remaining team below them - Sauber - will be moved up and receive the funds instead.

Manor are gone.

The entry was made on the hope that it'd help secure funding. It didn't work.

Its very sad that a team with a long history in motorsport has disappeared, its not their fault, ultimately blame can only be laid at the door of the owners.

yes, very sad, but I don't think it's fair to blame the owners 100%

remember, they were promised (by Spankie) a €50m budget cap that never materialised.

add the costs of the new powertains, and there you have it.

As much as I like Sauber as a team, well until they put 2 buffoons in the car this year anyway, I do think that unless they physically score points the the prize money should be split equally between all the teams. If the team who earnt it can't receive it then no one single team should benefit imo.

Poor Jules/team.

If he wakes up, there will be no team per se he remembers of..

Budget cap was never going to happen. It had been talked about for years but the big boys dug their heels in, its in part why FOTA was created. I can remember news reports at the time and it seemed clear to me it wouldn't happen.
The FIA proposed it but as usual with the vague way they go about their business never really explained how it would work or be policed (which is the difficult bit). This was all Spankys idea.

Increased engine costs must have been known last year ? so why did they sign a Concorde Agreement that didn't fund it ? Did they not have a calculator to work out a rough budget ?

Mr Cheglakov never funded the team to the extent it would go anywhere, they had just enough money to keep going (albeit incurring debts). They never moved forwards because lack of investment. I can
remember Lowdon saying "We know what we need to do, we just don't have the money". Mr Cheglakov also didn't go and find some sponsors that could help fund it.
Why didn't he sell last year ? 2 years ago ?

Many say how easy it was in the past, I don't think Frank Williams would agree, it took nearly 10 years for him to run a full time team in F1 and only happened when he got Fly Saudi sponsorship. If he had just made ends meet by flogging old car parts Williams would never have been the team it has become. He made it happen and went to extreme lengths to get money. I do not see the same hunger in Mr Cheglakov or Mr Fernandes.

Branson realised the team would need more investment than he was prepared to put in and got out.

Bernie is not blameless, but he's far from 100% at blame, for example apparently engine costs aren't going to drop as per manufacturers promises for 2015, whats the betting that they money will be spent on exploiting the unfreeze ? remind me who wants that again ? ah yes, two of the biggest teams on the grid ?

The only person really speaking sense at the moment is Toto Wolff.
