Advice for my first GP next year!
Discussion
So, I've finally decided that I NEED to do a Grand Prix next year and, as Silverstone is literally 30mins up the road, the British Grand Prix is probably the way to go for my first one!
I was just wondering if any of you guys could give any advice on where's best to sit? Is it best to do the whole weekend or just race day? Etc etc

A lot depends on if you want to go for a day or the weekend and how much you want to spend.
£400 , £300 or £200ish for the weekend??
I was thinking around £250-300; depends completely on the difference between the prices? £400 , £300 or £200ish for the weekend??
Just to add we went to spa with ledger for £399 per person that was picking us up from local services, 3 nights b&b and general admission race tickets, so that may be another option.

The difference on price is purely on location of grandstand, worth checking out which have roofs and which don't, i wouldn't pay that sort of cash and still not have a roof.

Spa sounds like it was a pretty good deal, I'll have to have look into it a bit better I think, maybe Silverstone isn't the way! Go Silverstone with general admission for the weekend, grandstands are way over priced and plenty of good places to view. We were on Farm Curves last year, can see about 4 corners, and didn't even need to arrive too early to get a slot.
Previously we were between Stowe and Vale, again can see several corners and a TV screen.
Even if you're only 30 mins away I would be tempted to camp for the weekend- all part of the experience.

Friday is good value, problem is if it rains then there is no action.
Just going for Race Day is a total and utter rip off as you only see three races. If you go for the weekend and ask 10 different people what tickets should you get and where to sit then you will get 10 different answers.
I used to go every year but got fed up of the price increases.

I agree with just race day being a rip off! General admission for just race day and the whole weekend differs by like £15, so I think I'll go for the weekend if anything. Get a group together and do some camping for the weekend.Just going for Race Day is a total and utter rip off as you only see three races. Going to have a look at a couple of places like Spa and Monza though aswel....don't sound as expensive as I was first told by the guys in the office

Hence why you should ask those 10 people what grandstand for under £300 then you'll cut down the different answers.Just going for Race Day is a total and utter rip off as you only see three races. It's a few years since I last went to the British GP (four or five I reckon). We used to get the general admission tickets for the three days. The tickets allow you into the grandstands on the Friday and Saturday (or they did at least then). We tried a few and I can't say I felt any offered a better view than we got sat on on the grass. There are a number of mounds around the track that you can sit on - my mate and I used to take a big cooler box, a lightweight folding sack truck and a couple of fold up camping chairs. It is much more comfortable than the grandstand seating but you do have to be there early if you want the best spot.
We used to sit on Club, where you could see the cars emerge from Stowe, though Club and into Abbey. The noise at Club is great as you hear the drivers accelerate through the gears. The only trouble is, Last time I was there was for my mate's Ferrari experience day. We had a look around the circuit and I noticed they had build another stand right where we used to sit. There should be plenty of other places though.

I've done Silverstone, Spa & Monza.
Silverstone is the most expensive, but is in the UK, views aren't superb from GA in my view although i've not been since the track was remodelled. A silver grandstand ticket can often be found last minute on ebay for a lot less than face value if you're willing to take the risk.
Monza was great, really good atmosphere, good opportunities to see the cars at flat out and also slower speeds. Good GA just before the finish line. Milan is boring. Really good food at the track (usual prices though)
Spa however is my favourite. Great views from GA, good atmosphere in camp sites. Average food. Downside is that the laps are quite long so you get less chances to see the cars due to fewer laps.
Costwise there isn't much in it I didn't think.

As Dan said, but Monza being my recommendation. Milan has plenty going on and great food. The circuit is only 30 minutes away by a very easy train journey and best of all you can get so close to the cars. You can't go wrong with Spa or Monza really. I did Silverstone this year too but couldn't really rate it as being as much fun as Monza.Silverstone is the most expensive, but is in the UK, views aren't superb from GA in my view although i've not been since the track was remodelled.
