Some wag on here yesterday suggested that perhaps the pay driver at the top of the tree was none other than Alonso. He was a firm favourite of the unofficial king of Spain...I wonder how much longer that contract has to run?....

Didn't have you down as one into weird conspiracy type theories !

He built Santander but I doubt his demise will impact the few quid they chuck Alonso's way. They chuck endorsement money all over the place. And in the big scheme of things the marketing and branding budget at Santander is way down the pecking order considering the wider issues they have with large parts of this book....

He ran Santander like his own business. We should never underestimate the power of shareholders (one for a beer for us, I feel) in forcing the hand. So I wouldn't be so sure that his daughter will automatically take his role...after all, as you say, she might want to continue to focus on parts of their book....

And if they recruit an external CEO, who's to say that they'll have the same interest in F1 that Emilio did - and if you total up the investment in F1 - title sponsorship, bridges and boards, Ferrari, McLaren, Alonso...it's more than a few quid...

Still expect him to see out his Ferrari F1 contract before moving up the ranks to WEC.

Out of all the drivers on the grid Alonso is surely one who will have to worry least about where his next sponsor dollar will come from.

True though and a bit of a double whammy for Alonso today. Uncertainty at Ferrari F1 and with his main sponsor. With Honda's dollars maybe this is the entry point Ron Dennis has been waiting for.
