Canadian GP. Anyone been?
Discussion
Starting to plan next years holiday. Would like to plan it around another GP
Am thinking of Canada, then an excuse for a few weeks in America.
I did Monaco, then around Europe this year, which was awesome, even if the racing was bit of a procession.
Would like to see a track with a bit more action..
So anyone who has been what was it like? Good atmosphere around?
Cheers

Went in 2012 was very good, Montreal was in the midst of student protests, but they seemed to subside for the GP weekend !
Getting in and out of the circuit took some time but everyone was in a pretty good mood( weather behaved and Lewis won).
We winged it with restaurants - ended up getting into Chuck Hughes place 'Garde Manger' on a whim, it was great.
Montreal turns into a huge party zone, you'll enjoy yourself!

I went in 2011 and had a fortnight in Eastern Canada leading up to the race weekend. I went with Mrs Chev and met up with my parents out there as well. The folks stayed in a Delta downtown which was quite pleasant but eye-wateringly expensive; something like £200/night. As I recall, the whole HRT team was staying there as well.
Mrs Chev and I elected for a hostel just near Crescent St. We got a double room with private bathroom and paid £25/person/night which was a total bargain. It was five mins walk to a metro station and perfect for a city break.
The metro to and from the track is really easy with just getting out on Sunday a problem but security is good and the train frequent. The support bill was pretty decent with FFord, Ferrari Challenge, Porsche Cup and Historic F1 – all with accessible open paddocks.
General admission is pretty crap so I’d definitely get a grandstand. It’s still fun walking the track during the practice days though and everything’s pretty relaxed. Food isn’t great and the WC facilities got a bit grim with 2011’s manic downpours but the atmosphere is fantastic and the track just promotes good racing and you’ll rarely see a boring Canadian GP.
The whole city gives itself up to the event - a bit like Surfers Paradise and the Gold Coast 600. We bumped (quite literally) into Anthony Hamilton when we were pissed in the old town and stumbled upon a Ferrari event of some kind which featured Jules Bianchi, who was in GP2 at the time.
If you’d like to know anything more specific, just drop me an e-mail but there are some photo galleries and information on my website if you’ve five minutes:

i've been to montreal 3 or 4 times, working (rather than as a spectator) so i have no idea which grandstand is best or the cost of hotels, but i'd say if you've covered that and are still considering it, do it.
for me, the best GP of the whole year, (although i stopped that job before Austin came along). The whole city embraces F1. Normal shops have F1 wheels and flags and people dressed up in the windows. Streets shut down and get filled with bars. Restaurants are really good, particularly for steak Everyone has a good time. Getting in and out of the circuit is easy on the subway. and Canadians are both keen followers of F1, and generally lovely people.

Went earlier this year (first time), was a great experience plus a friend of mine who works for Mercedes give me a tour of the garage currently in process of booking my flights for next year.
Get ur self booked on its awesome, the city, the people, the food etc etc.
I purchase a gold trio package from the circuit it self, due the exchange rates i saved around £30, still cost me best part of £300.
Friday stand 33 - (i didn't go to these seats as i was generally walking around hanged out with some new friends )
Saturday stand 15 (only went for quali, was pretty decent)
Sunday stand 1 (Best seats, watching the cars get ready and a direct view of the pitlane)
I stayed over at the university lodges which are run like hotels for the summer, nice big room, king size bed, full size bath 7 shower and a decent breakfast.
If you require any further information feel free to message me.
Regards,
I.
