Discussion
Ferrari finally seeing the light and LDM moving on? John Elkann taking over?

Just rumours at the moment, he has apparently been made a "non operative president" of Alitalia, someone on reddit translated this article http://www.affaritaliani.it/economia/alitalia-escl... he called it a "fake title". I guess thats something similar to non-executive chairman ?
Alitalia are broke, Etihad has taken a 50% ownership and are set to invest - they are going through quite a bit of business expansion at the moment.
Could be he will leave, but I'd be a bit surprised to be honest, the F1 team is only part of his job and commercially Fiat seem to be doing okay.
This says he isn't leaving Ferrari http://www.omnicorse.it/magazine/40699/f1-montezem...

The same LDM that brought them previous F1 success and transformed a struggling car firm into the powerhouse it is today.http://www.omnicorse.it/magazine/40671/f1-per-affa...
And then we're forgetting the Schumacher years also of utter dominance.
I would hope any changes would see someone of the same pedigree coming in to take over.

Wouldn't dispute that and he certainly turned around the road car business. Likewise hiring Byrne during the Schumacher years and of course Brawn and Todt too were good moves. And then we're forgetting the Schumacher years also of utter dominance.

But that was 10 years ago. More often than not since then the Ferrari has just not been good enough and commentators and drivers a like state the car lacks pace year after year.
Consider too the decision to hold on to Massa far too long than his performance warranted and the mishandling of Kimi leaving and returning this year. Plus the failures around the wind tunnel which are attributed to a personal decision by LdM and I start to see someone who's time is up.
That's not to undermine what he achieved but everything comes to an end and I feel Ferrari requires new leadership and LdM needs to move on.
I see some of the points you make also;
I would have ditched massa a lot sooner.
I wouldn't have taken kimi back on whilst you had alonso in the team.
I also think LDM had a hand in Schumacher leaving 1-2 years earlier than he could have stayed.
Dunno about the wind tunnel decisions other than they had issues.
I know the F1 performance has not been great over the last few years but they have been close on occassion. I think it is unfair alonso hasn't won two titles with Ferrari now. So close on both occasions and amazing work by alonso.

montzerellas toxic for ferrari.
ferrari were untouchable when he left the dream team to do their jobs.
in more recent years he's made ferrari his plaything, constantly meddling, removing those who wont bend to his will and installing his bhes like domenicalli, and ferrari will continue to under achieve until he stops swanning around like the glory hunting parasite he is and assigns the important jobs to those who can do them best and leaves them to do them.

There seems to be consensus amongst many F1 journos that the success of Ferrari's F1 "Schumacher years" was because Todt ring-fenced an F1 team built around Todt/Brawn/Byrne. It is notable that when Todt left and LdM became more involved the F1 team's performance faltered. And then we're forgetting the Schumacher years also of utter dominance.

Just repeating what I've read.

He didnt leave Todt/Brawn/Byrne alone; he couldnt get in to break them up. Once he got the chance to pull them apart it all started going wrong again!ferrari were untouchable when he left the dream team to do their jobs.

If he properly leaves Ferrari and someone else pulls the strings it would be the best thing for them.

Suzi Perry says 'di Montezemelo', Alonso calls him 'President Montezemelo'. I think I'd go with Peter Windsor and think there's no 'di' in the middle.
