My 16yo son loves F1.

As we go to GFOS each he's also start to appreciate the old drivers, and the history of the sport. Are there any good DVD's on the drivers, the cars, and the classic races?

How far back do you want to go?

Grand Prix racing began in 1906.

F1 began in 1946.

The World Championship began in 1950.

1 - Life on the Limit.

Mostly about the danger of the earlier days, but loads of footage of old races and drivers.

If you have a nose in your local Poundland Ive found a few old F1 docu DVDs in there. Not watched them yet but for £1 it was worth picking them up!

Such a great, great film. I love the opening 5 minutes and seeing Brundle run back to the pits after Prof Watkins asked him what day is it? Big lump in the throat moment!!!

Probably just F1. He knows who Stirling Moss is so would probably be interested that far back.

So - 1950 onwards.

The Duke DVD series on the great British drivers would be worth a shout, I would suggest. There are separate DVDs on Moss, Hill, Clark and Surtees.

The DVD on Jackie Steward (produced by his son Mark) is excellent too.

For the history of the sport there is also a fair bit on YouTube. I work from home and YT is a constant distraction, especially if I am writing on a motoring subject. The temptation is to just go on there for research and before I know it two hours have gone. Loads on motor racing, historics and such.

Search for Stirling Moss. There's a day gone.

I was at Brands one year when the team owners had a race in Escorts. It's on YT. Great fun and very nostalgic for me. I'm sure the names that come off the tongue of the commentator would interest your lad.

Sorry, should have put the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvnNd1sCHa0
