A question for those that have been to the gp this weekend..

Just thought I'd throw this poll out there now that there should be a fair few of us on here that have seen an F1 car live, given that there were 120k people where there today (I am assuming at least some where ph'ers)

I know that there has been plenty of discussion regarding the new engine sound, but would love to see what people think now they have heard them in real life.

My personal view is that i will probably never attend another live race again, will just watch it on tv.

Would like to hear what those who attend a race live think only if i can!

Will be interesting to see what the results are!

Completely sold on the new noise.

I prefer it over the old noise. I was at Silverstone last year too, so had heard them live.

Just got back. The noise was different, a lot quieter. However, seeing hamilton chip away at rosberg more than made up for that. I know its a sweeping generalisation, but much more entertaining racing (IMO since the engine change its been great) > Noise. Noise alone does not make a race fun to watch.

Having been to f1 races over many years I have seen the v12 '10 s + v8s race ' so i went to the Canadian gp to hear this years engines and watch the race ....because it sounded weak on the tele ' and I was very disappoint with the sound in person ' I would prefer the screaming v8s .....somethings shouldn't go green (f1) 'if they wanted too save fuel ? Don't fly the cars and equipment to some off the st tracks would work for me .....lol ' nothing will sound as good as the v8 at 20'000 rpm.

Noise is no where near as good as previous years which is a shame as the noise was one of the many things you looked forward too at an F1 event.

That said the current noise is actually quite nice in it's own way, the whistle of the turbo, the sound of the energy recovery systems, etc. Yes I miss the screaming engines but the race itself (and I suppose the technology) more than made up for this.

Horner & Newey asked same question at the after race party to the remaining audience as they were taking it up with Bernie this week - they seems audience were for V8s & Newey wanted to go back to V10s

I assume that this comment was made in jest, or are you seriously suggesting that they said they were going to speak to him about this?!

Bernie never wanted these engines anyway!

This. I enjoyed very much listening to the V8 cars at a few races I've been to before, but I wouldn't think for a second about not going because of the new sound.

I heard a few fans talking (and seen a lot on forums) about the GP2/GP3/911 cars being louder, and they were, but whatever. They aren't Formula 1 cars. I still love F1 and the sound hasn't put me off at all, not as much as if Vettel had won most of the races this year so far.

I loved how Antonio Felix Da Costa drove that car on the Sunday. I had nipped back to the campsite on Friday so I missed it then, and Alain Prost wasn't able to do a lot with it in the damp on Saturday. But on Sunday, yeah, it did make me wish to see another race with V8 engines.

Couldn't agree more, this was my first GP and I was happy with the sound, yes not as loud as the GP2/GP3/Porsche but still more than acceptable, it was only when they rolled out the RB8 that i wished i'd been to see them in action.

After the GP on the stage when RBR were being interviewed Christian Horner did do a 'fan survey' of the noise and said he would be sending it to Bernie. Naturally the V6 got booed and the V8 got cheered.

Still, this weekend was fantastic and the race was amazing definitely worth the drop in sound levels.

Don't get the big fuss about the V8's to be honest, all sounded the same and nowhere near as good as the V10's. They are the very pinnacle of sound when it comes to the internal combustion engine. Nothing is better than those imo.

I like the noise of the cars - just like the 80's turbos only quieter. Much quieter, but then, so were all these "old" V8s/V10s/V12s of the past couple of decades...

I was sat at Village A and they sounded good as you got to hear them accelerate away as they ejected their noise straight at you, but as they turned round and headed for Aintree they seemed almost completely silent.

Definitely need to up the volume somehow. Higher turbo pressure and more power would do it and would spice up the skill level at the same time.

I was very disappointed with the (lack of) noise in Austria, but the noise at Silverstone (from Becketts during Quali and Luffield for the race) was much much better.

I guess maybe in Austria I was in the GA bit where the cars were just going past whereas at Silversone they were going away from us so louder.

I was able to have conversations and hear the circuit tannoy with ease in Austria but not at Silverstone. Maybe that was due to the cheers for Lewis/Jenson/Max every lap.

Phew, F1 still sounds like F1 IMHO. (Although I agree the sound of the V8 car sounded spectacular (from the campsite!) on the Sunday AM.)
