lewis and crap pit stops
Discussion
(OK I'm a Hamilton fan) its going to be tough to win races when you are dealing with pit stops slower than your team mate. Any advantage being made is lost on pit stops and some !!!!! Must of lost just over 2 seconds plus ' and to finsh so close. It cost him the race win today ......
The problem seems to be himself, and a great race driver needs to be fast when needed, but also (as in pit stops) highly accurate when asked to stop at a very precise point. Half a second is tiny, but obviously in F1 it means a great deal, I think if he is missing the 'point' then the pit team is doing well only taking that fraction longer. He's part of a team, and in pit stops needs to do better himself - I'm sure he'll look inwards and sort it by Silverstone.
Anyone read his post race comments.
Very interesting.
Why when you caught Nico so quickly could you not get passed?
-my car seemed to lose power and Nico's didn't !!!
My theory is you can read between the lines here.
Avoid Bahrain situation by turning Lewis's engine down.
They give the aura of being squeaky clean and letting them race- but all might not be as it seems.
Maybe it's fair enough if the cars were marginal to make it to the end.

But we clearly heard on the pit to car radio that they asked both drivers to run the same engine mode.
Pit to car adjustments were banned many years ago, so unless Nico ignored the request, both were running the same mode to the end.
It's absolutely laughable how many people are making up conspiracies about the (largely British) Mercedes Benz team.

Lewis was asked if he was missing his marks which was costing him time, and that could be the reason.
To think the team is doing it deliberately and to think the team manages to somehow fins 0.5-1 second delay on purpose is laughable.
Perhaps the reason he couldnt pass Nico was that Rosberg was driving within himself and had speed to add when he needed it?

Clearly a win would have been better, but finishing second is no disgrace.
Yes I accept that the two fastest cars should end up finishing as they did but he still had to pass people to do it.
To say on your own forum that he made the errors and he has to accept the consequences, shows a side of Lewis that counters the 'spit the dummy out' in Monaco situation, which perhaps he realised after didn't do him any favours at all.
Bravo Williams meantime. . .

He didnt seem to be sulking at all yesterday ...so I have no idea what you are referring to ?
In fact he blamed himself for loosing time on his pitstop as he didnt position his car quite correctly in the pit box.
Exactly what I thought! In fact he blamed himself for loosing time on his pitstop as he didnt position his car quite correctly in the pit box.
He seemed happy to take that one on the chin and happy to take 2nd from such a poor starting place.

Yeah, nothing to do with screwing up both qualifying runs, starting 9th and subsequently getting stuck behind the Williams for a significant amount of time. nooo, the reason Lewis didn't win is because his stops were marginally slower than his team mates.....
Mark Webber's question to Lewis on the podium also seemed to indicate that he sensed some unfair play, like he also experienced with RB's preferred driver.
Lewis's response was quite measured.
Q: Lewis, over to you mate. Well done. A good recovery after a tough qualifying. In terms of… mega first lap, right on Nico at the start there after the first lap. In terms of pit stops, are you happy with your positioning because I’m a bit worried about how much time you’re losing in the pits. The guys… good stops for Nico but are you happy with the positioning on that? Also at the end of the race did you have to manage any issues and could you fight Nico?
Lewis Hamilton: I don’t know. I have to have a look at the feedback and just see what the team say about the stops. Maybe my positioning is not right, you know obviously in those situations you’re just pushing. But the guys have done a fantastic job. As Nico said, to get another one-two here is just incredible. This track has been fantastic and the fans have been insane this weekend, so thank you all for the support.
Maybe Mercedes were marginal on fuel, tyres and brakes, but telling the guys to start racing with less than 2 laps to go was just "show boating" a photo finish with a pre-determined outcome.
In FP2, Lewis was way quicker than Nico. The team prated about with ride height in FP3. He seemed able to gain time and places whenever allowed in the race, but somehow was never allowed to get to attack Nico.
Nikki Lauda has said that only when the WDC is beyond doubt will they be allowed to really attack each other. Perhaps there is an understanding that whoever is highest on the grid takes the win?
Mercedes times seem tardy compared to the 2.5 second being pumped out regularly by Force India and Williams but the cumulative time lost in Lewis's pitstops seem likely to determine the outcome of the WDC.

Webber suggested to Hamilton that he needed to hit his marks better to avoid the long pit stops. Hamilton agreed he ended to look at it. Lewis's response was quite measured.

MB have publicly stated that they are not rushing pit stops. They have no need to with their overall superiority, no point risking an error.

Owen I hope your right and it can be sorted by silverstone ...2 weeks to wait ...and if anything came good about this weeks race ' it was nice to see Williams getting back on track
Williams were closer yesterday but there is nothing yet to suggest they have improved relative to MB. Yesterday's track suited a low drag car with a powerful engine. The Williams has low drag because it has less downforce than the MB. See how they go at Silverstone. If they are competing with MB there, then they have improved but I wouldn't bet on it.
