I reckon someone up high in Red Bull are probably regretting the decision for Torro Rosso to switch to the same engine.
They will be back..just not this season.

I'd like to see them snaffle up Mclaren's Mercedes engines once they swap to Honda.

This cant see rbr not paying Renault think its just Renault trying to make tension with red bull so they will chose another engine supplier so Renault can be finished with f1.

Nah.

I think the issue is the new mechanic who works on Vettel's car.

Tall, lanky dark haired bloke with a wry grin on his face.

As I said in the GP thread, I do wonder that it is RBR-STR that are witholding payments to Renault as both Caterham and Lotus have said they are up to date.
Probably not withholding per se, probably not paying as they don't yet meet the contract specification / milestones?

Can't see it happening, Merc would be mad to give away one of the advantages their works team have to their top rival.

I think they will give Renault another year and jump ship to Honda.

For how long do McLaren have an exclusive arrangement with Honda? I would be surprised if McLaren allowed Honda to sell engines to competitors in year 2, having done all the leg work in year 1. I'd be wanting at least 1 season of exclusivity following a development year.

as above, until they sever ties with Infiniti there will always be a Renault/Nissan engine in the back ...well, until VAG decide to dip their toe into F1

Are you sure you're not reading into this too much? Maybe he just didn't know what was wrong with the turbo?

It seems the Red Bull chassis is well sorted (though we don't know how much the packaging is effecting reliability). Horner is canny enough to use the press to push Renault along. He isn't normally daft enough to say things by accident.

No i don't think so, even from as early as the first tests going through the first race in OZ he always seemed quick to blame Renault on this that and the other, renault need to sort this, do that etc etc, he's even bought TOTAL into it saying those 2 are working together OR NEED TO work together to sort the issues, its never been about RBR.

Ok i would tend to agree with him, its under powered, the batteries/motors fragile, the software all over the place, this is all Renaults stuff but what happened to all the 'happy families' when they were winning WDC/WCC together, now they've hit a rough patch its all Renaults fault and not a team effort

You see you've already formed that opinion and position about their relationship. Now you're interpreting this new quote to fit into your pre-existing opinion.

My understanding is that Red Bull have been Renault's de-facto works team since the start of 2013 and the Infiniti title sponsorship is part of the engine supply deal. If RBR decide to dump Renault and jump into bed with Honda as a customer team, they will need either a new title sponsor or for Mateschitz to make up the difference.

I'm surprised by RBR's public humiliation of Renault.

Yes, it is a difficult time for Renault, but they have responded well since the disasters of pre-season. They have won more World Championships than Merc and Ferrari in the last 25 years. I'm sure that during 2014 (if development steps are possible within the rules framework), but if not, certainly for 2015, they will be competitive again.

It will NEVER HAPPEN.

F1 have been siding up to VAG for, well I can't remember how long, well over a decade, and I don't recall them every expressing a real interest in it.

Every year some obscure online F1 rumour site will credit an 'nameless insider' as claiming they will be joining in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013....

Weird and wonderful reg changes, including the latest engines get blamed on the request of the VAG board for them to join, but they never have and I don't think they ever will.
