Damon Hill drives a Renault RS01 around Monaco
Discussion
a) - he doesn't own it
b) - he has never driven it before
c) he never drove a turbo F1 car in period
d) that was a VERY early turbo car so would have been very unruly to drive
I presume Johnny Herbert was driving the other Renault. He wasn't driving any quicker - and it was a later, slightly more refined car.
A few years ago Michael Schumacher was given the chance to drive the Harvey Postlethwaite 1983 Ferrari F1 car. He said he had never been so frightened in a car ever.

I can just imagine the top drivers like Senna, Prost, Hunt, Schui, Alonso, Halilton etc watching this and pissing themselves laughing saying 'He's driving it like a pussy!'
The first time he has driven it, its at Monaco, and the small issue of it being someone elses....Vocal Minority said:

Always liked Damon. Seems like a thoroughly decent chap. He always said he was 'nothing special' in an F1 car. But I think he was bloody good at development and a decent journeyman/peddler in an F1 car, certainly a LOT better than the pay drivers we have these days!
That Renault did sound lovely and having watched them in their hayday, I don't think they were the 'easiest' thing to drive even if you were used to them. As others have said, someone elses motor, probably worth a few quid/impossible to replace/difficult to repair if bent, decent amount of circumspection required.
Oh, and having let Johnny through, he overtook him again later and we never saw him again.

That was great to watch. What a difference between a 70's analogue F1 car and todays digital ones. The drivers needed to concentrate on driving the car and changing gear rather than adjusting brake harvesting levels, map settings, diff offset torque and other computer settings to let the car do a lap.
Nice to reminisce but it'll never be like that again.
I would have loved to see Damon do some laps in the FW14B, maybe one day...
