I've only ever had grand stand tickets so cannot offer any specific advice on GA, but I recommend getting an early train into Monaco.

Not sure exactly where you staying as I cannot find that place on the map, could it be Beaulieu-sur-Mer, in which case it's only about three stops.

This is only speculative based on experiences of other races and a lack of replies currently however I would have expected that 9am would be rather late to arrive on the rock overlooking the track.

Personally I would be aiming to get there from about 7 or 8am at the latest, expecting to move very little from there until the race. There will be plenty of people already there who have stayed all night. A rug/fold up chair, and a spot where you can see a big screen would seem to be the basic requirements - I would also take some small binoculars.

Here is a link with loads of first hand experiences which I hope helps. Enjoy the race - I have yet to attend Monaco. I hear walking the track in the evenings after the sessions is great fun.

Get there as early as possible - I would expect it to be a bun fight by all accounts. Have only had GS tickets (have only been once before).

Use Thursday to navigate yourself and work out where you are going on Sat + Sun - it could save you a few minutes of faffing around. It's a right PITA getting around and there are a lot of people attempting to get into small spaces. Be prepared to pay over the odds for stuff and take plenty of water with you!

We had a great time, quite different to any other motorsport event I've been to before.

Rocher can be seen here : bottom left of the map, the grey area. You should see quite a bit from there and there may be a screen.

Take a radio, Riviera Radio or whatever it is cover the race (sort of) in English and planetsport.com or something have the timing (data roaming charges may well apply!). http://www.rivieraradio.mc/home.asp they had some great interviews before the race.

We had a pain au choc or something down a little alley, quite close to the circuit, but off the beaten track on the Sat morning or Sun morning and it was respectably priced. Everything you can buy next to the circuit is extortionately priced - but what would you expect?

We were staying in Nice, the train in was great on Thurs and Sat and then rammed on Sunday and loads of confusion about what trains were actually running (timetable went out of the window). We were on a flight back on Sunday so had to get the crammed train back, but did manage to see quite a few of the commentators, former drivers and even a current driver (on our flight!) back to the UK from Nice airport on Sunday evening smile There were also some zeleb hanger ons as well..

Would definitely go again, but need to save up to do it like that (different GS every day) or better!!

There have been a few recent threads discussing issues on going to the Monaco GP, and it's worth reading through them to check out ideas and suggestions.

Here's one to start with:

but type "Monaco GP" into the search box to find others.
These threads are all useful, even though you risk information overload.smile

Have a great time at the GP! I'm sure you're going to love it. We've been three times now, and each one stays in the memory as a very special day.cloud9

We went last year and were very pleasantly surprised how reasonable the prices were. Loads of maman et papa stalls selling baguettes, cold cans, bottled water and so on at fair prices. Decent ham salad baguettes were 3 Euros or so. Queues for the toilets were epic, but the loos were the cleanest and smartest I've ever seen at a race.

To the OP, do get there as early as you can. The trains come in from Nice and beyond and they are crammed.

Echoing what's been written before, get there early, take something to drink, sunscreen and brolly/waterproofs and probably something to sit on. There will have been people camping there all night to get decent viewing, so expect to be a long way up the bank and well away from anything worth viewing.

I did this in 2012 and, honestly, wouldn't consider doing it again. I would always pay for grandstand seats on the understanding that it's money well spent and you can actually see the cars. At Rocher, you'll see a little blur every now and again, but spend most of the time watching the big TV's and wishing you'd bought some decent tickets. This year you won't even hear the cars either, so it'll be a big anti climax.

I've heard that some bars will do a drinks/food/race seat package, if you can get there in time. Might be worth looking into that, if you can.

Enjoy yourself, I wish I was going.

Thanks for all this and the advice trouble is my daughter-in-law arranged all of this for my sons birthday on the promise of her friends who work for one of the teams getting tickets. Guess what? They haven't so four adults and two small children are going to Rocher any help for a reasonable upgrade or suggestions more than welcome.

Can see a disaster on the horizon!

We will use Thursday to scout around plan to do kiddy things on Friday & Saturday and OMG Rocher on Sunday - HELP

Rocher is fine however it can be quite steep so I would recommend taking a small trowel/digging tool so you can dig yourself into the hillside a little bit. I can echo the bit above about food, surprisingly good value from the little stalls. The view isn't as bad as some make out and there are certainly worse views at Monaco (Z1 for a start).

I've never got there too early, pretty sure I always left the hotel in Nice at around 7am and have travelled by both bus and train into Monaco and never had a problem finding a spot. Incidently the bus journey isn't as crowded as the train but does take about an hour.

I don't know if this is an option because it can be a bit of a price hike from general admission but if it does look like a disaster and you want to turn it around there is another option available on the day.

Grandstand tickets will be expensive but you'll see girls walking behind the main straight. Looking at maps I think it was Rue Princesse Florestine. They'll be selling tables at cafes and balconies around the circuit.

They will start high but in the end I think we paid about the equivalent of £500 in total for a table for three at the cafe on the outside of St Devote corner in 2009 which I'm pretty certain was a lot cheaper than the grandstand tickets that were available on the day.

edit: Hang on... just noticed from a previous post you've owned 2 x 12C and a 458.... I might now consider re-wording my opening paragraph smile

We drove up Sunday morning with no tickets and bought the table about 30 minutes before race start. There was no planning - it was very spontaneous as we were 4hrs away along the Cote D Azur at a friends. We'd not researched anything and turned up with a plan to make it work whatever. As it turned out everything dropped into place.

So unfortunately don't know if you can buy on Thursday though I would assume you can. Equally though I've tried to search on the web since then about the girls selling along that road the internet seems devoid of information.
