Does anyone know if it's possible to watch the testing at Silverstone and how much tickets would be if they charged?

Also, we're trying to combine with a mini break, OH wants to go to Milton Keynes (don't ask - but at least I get to go skiing...). We have two kids under three so can anyone recommend family friendly place to stay for a mini mid week break in the area, with attractions to see?

Cheers!

There's very limited F1 testing in 2014: http://www.selectmotorracing.com/F1_info/info_F1-t...
Silverstone test (July 8-9) during the week following the GP.
Day 1 - Ferrari and Lotus
Day 2 - Red Bull and Marussia

...cars will probably be driven by test drivers, but an advantage of limited teams out on the track will be the ability to follow the cars around the circuit purely by the engine noise alone (pre 2014 cars!!) wink

Years ago, you could watch F1 testing for free, but in later times there was a £10 charge at the gate IIRC. When I was last there, you were limited in where you could go (e.g. main stand(s) and Luffield is the usual test viewing area, although someone who knows better since the change in the track might be along in a mo!

Not sure about accommodation, but I remember entry to last year's young driver / tyre test was £15.

Great deal, considering the likes of Messrs Vettel and Massa were on track the day I went.

I went to last years test, which was a really good day out! Weather was hot and sunny and it was nice to see the cars in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Make sure you watch the cars as they turn into Abbey. I have seen F1 a few times, but this is one of the best spots to see how stupidly fast they are through the bends and change direction!

There's a pit walk at the end of the session. An extra tenner supplement IIRC. Not much to see mainly cars and bits of bodywork.

Anyone know if its tickets on the gate only for this then?
Went to Jerez Testing in January and they started selling tickets online a week before, (huge queues on the gate) but guessing Silverstone wont want to advertise this and lose the odd sale for the GP instead.
The noise is more interesting - if you are a real fan hearing all the different whirs and whines makes it well worth a look. But yes, you already know they are much quieter..

Center Parcs Woburn is opening next month - close to MK and a great family venue at others we've visited (if pricey).
Will be at Le Mans whilst the GP is on but thinking this could be a good thing to come back to and indulge further!!

For somewhere to stay try the Coach House in Duncote / Towcester, a very very good B&B I've used on a number of occasions

I suspect info will be a tad harder to come by, as last years was a full 3 day Young Drivers Test. That was £10 in advance and £15 on the gate, with a pit walk for an additional £10 (I think they just roll out a show car though).

Viewing was along International Pits Straight and then from Luffield around to Copse. They use the National pits. No other areas were accessible, and a few Grandstands open.

For £10, as the sun was shining and it wasnt too busy it was a bargain. Cars run from 9-5 I think, with an unofficial lunch break. However people in their wisdom continually ignore barriers and stand right up against the fences, and sooner or later Im sure access will be cut off because theres a horrible accident waiting to happen. Why those extra 3 feet make such a difference I dont know, but Im sure if the stewards werent patrolling regularly someone would end up going past the fence to the armco too!

Hotels...Silverstone has great lists of local places on their site. Or theres the Snoozebox at the circuit which isnt pretty but its right there.

So Silverstone have released ticket details, and it hasn't gone down well! £25 in advance, £30 on the day plus an extra £10 for the pit walk! No chance I'm paying that when there is no guaranteed action!

Their blurb suggests ALL teams will be testing - still not sure it's worth the price hike from last year, tho.

I for one am extremely disappointed irked

I'm quite surprised at that. There were very few there last year and many, like me, who arrived mid morning and left at lunch time. You'd have to have been a bit keen to stay all day, with the comparatively little action that was taking place.

I certainly wouldn't bother making the trip this year at £30, unless there's a lot more going to happen.

Maybe they really don't want spectators there?

That's a little disappointing. Although on one hand I think getting to see some F1 cars in action for £25 is relatively cheap compared to a race day, you could also watch a day's worth of BTCC or WEC racing for the same price.

I think the £15 charged last year was fair, and great for those who wanted to see the cars live without spending a fortune. Although £25 isn't a massive amount, if jumps keep being made, the fans will be even more alienated than they already are frown

£25 may seem steep.

However you get something like 7-8 hours of cars running pretty much non stop. It's great value and totally relaxed and fun.

And I suspect the price hike is partly for profit (can't blame them when the GP costs so much to run) and partly to fund more stewards to keep people from misbehaving which sadly they were last year.

Friday GP is £65 for a few hours practise. This is £25 for all day. Go, you won't regret it.

I may have mentioned this once or twice before but the crowd that run Silverstone really are a bunch of greedy syes

£25 for 1 day, £40 for 2, in advance also incase it rains. Possibly linked to the fact they're expecting Lewismania to hit.... Today is 4th June, a month to go until the GP and plenty of tickets still available. Looks like plenty of people voting against ticket prices with their feetyes
