Watches worn on the Podium
Discussion
I'm into watches so i notice things like that too, it'll probably be sponsors watches, think merc has IWC, williams have TW STEEL, McLaren probably TAGs
What gets me is when the drivers go into that room to cool down a bit before the podium the bloke in there gives them all their watches back to wear on the podium (i'm assuming he's given them before the race), so do all drivers do this because because no one knows if you'll be on the podium to collect your watch back, did Lewis have to go back to retrieve his after OZ?

I always thought the podium guy handing out watches in his suit and a humourless manner worked for Hublot.
There was a feature on him a couple of seasons ago, as people had been asking who he was.I'm sure he works for the FIA, hands out the relevant watches and hats. I'm sure he did other things too, but can't remember.

Williams have Oris and it is Force India that now have TW Steel after they left Lotus two years agoWhat gets me is when the drivers go into that room to cool down a bit before the podium the bloke in there gives them all their watches back to wear on the podium (i'm assuming he's given them before the race), so do all drivers do this because because no one knows if you'll be on the podium to collect your watch back, did Lewis have to go back to retrieve his after OZ?

I noticed that one of the Mercedes drivers has a watch embroidered onto his left glove. You can see it on the onboard cameras!

Doesn't it just demonstrate what huge margins there are in these timepieces that take just 40mins to assemble from many generic components.
Presumably they have to shift a Daytona every time Sky run the Rolex ad?
Like all jewellery, watches retail at a HUGE margin. This does not mean that they are crap, just that they are massively overpriced. Presumably they have to shift a Daytona every time Sky run the Rolex ad?
I would imagine that a £1000 watch is manufactured at well below £100.
