Helle Nice - Female Grand Prix driver - Radio 4 episodes
Discussion
Might be of interest to some, Radio 4 are doing episodes on the life of Female Grand Prix racer Helle Nice, who raced Bugattis and Alfas up against some of the best racing drivers of the era.
Sadly missed ep 1, but ep 2 onwards is on iplayer.

Thought some might like this - the 30s was a rather interesting period given the current discussion of women in F1 recently - 1932 was the year a Woman one Le Mans in class and gained 4th overall - still the highest a woman has achieved at the 24hrs. Haven't had a chance to listen properly, so not sure how good it is yet.

The book Fast Women by John Bullock (Robson Books 2002) is worth a read.
Covers the stories of the top women racers of the pre-war years. Very enjoyable read, with some good detail and excellent photos.
Only problem with the book is that, irritatingly, it doesn't have an index, and most of the chapter-titles don't give a clue as to whom that chapter is covering - so without re-reading (or re-skimming) I can't tell (can't remember, either - it's a decade since I read it) whether Helle Nice is covered (by the book, not by clothing).
