46 years ago on this date, Our sport lost the best driver it had ever had.

For many people that day, their loss was huge, for those of us not old enough to have been around, the loss is still felt.

Jim Clark was a giant of the sport who left a hole that no-one really managed to fill until Prost's dominance in the mid eighties.

Clark could (and did) drive anything fast and if it held together long enough he would probably win. In F1 he finished second only once. In Chapman's Lotuses the phrase "win or bust" was never more appropriate. But for reliability, Clark could conceivably have been F1 champion in 1962, 1964 and 1967 as well as the two championships he won in 1963 and 1965.

Anyway, here's to Jimmy. Spare a moment today to think of how 1968 would have worked out in the Lotus 49B...

April 7th 1968 has always had a "JFK moment" for me, I remember where I was and how I felt 46 years ago very well.

I've always imagined Jimmy taking the Lotus to the WDC in 1968,1970 and 1972, but his record as it stands is incredible enough to repeat.

Starts: 72
Wins: 25
Pole: 33
Fastest Laps 28

RIP Jimmy

There's been more than a few, but, by far the saddest day in Motor Racing history for this enthusiast. Saw the man himself in action many times. Simply different class on and off the track.
