I thought I would start a thread about everyone's thoughts on the new season, and associated changes to the cars!

Currently watching the race and so many things seem to have changed, a few things have really taken my interest:

- fuel allowances and the regulators (adding another tactical level to the race as they have to watch their consumption of fuel)

- the engine and drive train, what are people's opinions on the new 1.6 turbo v6? It's certainly quieter than the old screamers! But has a significant torque advantage which is changing driving styles!

- the combination of engine and electric motors, if anyone is interested in how it works here's a YouTube video on the Renault engine:

Really interesting the way the electric motor can be used to spool the turbo and eliminate lag!

Just thought I would start this tread to get peoples thoughts on it all!

I like it, it's high-tech and the drivers are having to be very careful on the throttle where before they could just floor it and turn the wheel. Not put off attending races by the engines allegedly killing the sport.

I've heard that today's Malaysian GP was extremely dull but I don't know where anyone got the idea that every F1 race in the past was 100% flat out with the lead changing twice every lap. There were some good battles through the field with one driver way into the lead just like quite a lot of races in the last couple of years.

It's early days yet for this formula, things will only get better.

It's great when the safety car comes out - at last proper engine noise introduced into the vacuum cleaner atmosphere.

Its not the torque so much as the lack of grip from harder tyres and much less downforce

This is the key point, this is what makes the drivers having to work more.

The powertrains are interesting, but with the fuel limits, we are very much driving to a fuel gauge rather than racing the guy in front of them.

Apart from todays race being a dull fest....the only thing more boring is the BBC1 commentary.
Suzie Perry still hasn't got a clue and that guy with Coulthard, well he aint no Brundle that's for sure
