F1 2014 - Something has gone wrong.....
Discussion
Ive been thinking about this since Melbourne, and have not been clear on 'whats wrong', but its come to me today.
Like many of you, I love the technical side and the complex strategic elements that have been building for years. With the increase in TV coverage and endless analysis, this helps us to understand the multiple variables and the 'story' of not just a weekend, but an entire season.
This year, its gone to a higher level, with uber complex 'power units' and interconnected energy recovery systems etc etc.
But hang on, is this what I want? I have a fairly complex job 5 days + a week and spend a fair chunk of that on detailed analysis, reporting and problem solving. Do I want more at the weekend?
No! At the weekend, I want a release. I want to be entertained. I want fun, joy, happiness.
Motorsport should be these things. I want the noise, the spectacle, the whisky swilling, dare devil, awesome driving, long haired, women chasing uber drivers! I want to be sitting up on the sofa shouting at the TV, revelling in the adrenalin caused by a proper race, a real RACE!
Don't get me wrong, I wont stop watching, I cant, I love it too much, but its lost its way.
Bring back the FUN!

I think what he means is F1 used to be big boys and there toys. The big V8s, the noise and not that they have disappeared the pit girls.
Over the past few years it has turned into a techno world now with ers-k and ers-h. I personally appreciate the technology advances but the fact that they are restricting things such as the exhaust coming out the back under the rear spoiler seems a bit ridiculous.

What don't you understand?
What about MotoGP? Seems that's what most people prefer to F1.
Personally to me, I like lots of motorsport and each type offers something different. I'm still enjoying F1 and it's helped by the brilliant Sky coverage (albeit, the BBC reduction in service adds to this!)

FF1600, last year’s Walter Hayes Trophy was the first time in years that I was totally engrossed in a race that I was not involved in as a mechanic. Thoroughly enjoyed going to that meeting. That’s also taking into account Scott Malvern showing everyone a clear pair of heals at the restart never to be seen again….

I didn't think the moto gp was much better racing than f1 last year. What about MotoGP? Seems that's what most people prefer to F1.

British superbikes is where its at if you want close racing.
I was watching the "1" documentary the other day and even Hunt was considered a rebel in the field.
It's an interesting forum argument tactic and Senna and Gilles Villeneuve is often used in the same way; just put his picture in the post and imply that if you disagree with the forum post then you disagree with Mr Hunt.. You're shielding your argument behind Mr Hunt's reputation because you know that nobody will dare to diss James Hunt (and Senna and Villeneuve) and their god-like status.
