I just thought of an interesting pub quiz question.

Which f1 driver has driven for the most championship winning teams? (Since 1970)

For example, Ayrton Senna drove for 3 - Lotus, Mclaren and Williams.I know there is at least a few more drivers who have driven for more. WHo can you think of?

Do they have to be champions when said driver joins?

If not:

Prost: Renault, Mclaren, Ferrari, Williams.

Otheriwse

Jenson Button: Williams, Bennetton, McLaren, Brawn (4)

Jean Alesi: Tyrell, Ferrari, Bennetton (3)

Gehard Berger: McLaren, Ferrari, Bennetton (3)

Fred:Renault, McLaren, Ferrari (3)

Lewis Hamilton - has never not been in one (if you allow Mercedes Brawn's crown, or pre date it to 1955

Another five (kind of) is Nelson Piquet - McLaren, Brabham, Williams, Lotus and Benetton.

The McLaren wasn't a works entry so doesn't really count...

Chris Amon - 5
Cooper, Ferrari, Matra, Tyrrell, BRM.

Dan Gurney - 5
Ferrari, BRM, Lotus, Brabham, McLaren

Stirling Moss - 5
Mercedes-Benz, Maserati, Vanwall, Cooper, Lotus

I'm sure there's a 6'er somewhere.

Missed the since 1970 bit, which removes Moss and Gurney

Lauda for 4 - Brabham, Ferrari, McLaren, BRM (though BRM won pre-1970. Does that count?)
Piquet for 5 - McLaren, Brabham, Williams, Lotus, Benetton

Also being really pedantic, Moss never raced for Lotus, he raced a Lotus, but for Rob Walker. So it was a future title winning constructor, but not team

Quite a few 4s out there:

Ricardo Patrese: Brabham, Alfa Romeo, Benetton, Williams

Mansell: Lotus, Williams, Ferrari, McLaren

Andrea De Cesaris (for Pete's sake) Tyrell, Brabham, Alfa, McLaren

Barrichello is on 4 if Stewart counts as Red Bull - Brawn, Williams & Ferrari.

I've been wondering how to treat the enstone mob.

Are we treating a name change as a new team? In the same spirit could Johnny Herbert count Stewart, which eventually became red bull?

Barrichello would be on 4 then aswell: Stewart (red bull), brawn, Williams, Ferrari - but it's getting pretty tenuous there

Just want to correct myself, Ickx drove for 7 teams who were or became championship winners. I was on my mobile last night.

Tyrrell, Cooper, Ferrari, Brabham, McLaren, Williams, Lotus.
