I am going to be near Milan at the start of September so thinking I will pop to the GP for the qualifying and race day. What are peoples tips please? Do I buy tickets online before or on the gate?

I've not been but did look into it this year. Some info I found:
- General Admission is fine for practice/qualifying but the circuit is very busy on race day
- The first train from Milan isn't until 7ish so it's hard to beat the rush (especially from those camping) to get a good spot
- It's possible to get onto the old banking from some grandstands
- It's supposedly a bad time of the year for wasps (coupled with it being in a park) so take some repellent

I attended in 2012 and wrote a fairly comprehensive account of the whole experience: http://www.motorcardiaries.co.uk/2012/boys-big-dri...

Drop me a PM if you think I might be able to help with anything that isn't mentioned. I would always advocate booking tickets in advance and would get grandstands if you can. There is only one reasonable viewing area with a view of a big screen in general admission that I found (inside of second Lesmo).

It's probably the best motor racing experience you can have, though, so I'd strongly advocate that you head over. Properly magical place.

Thanks guys, I will read your diary experience.

Where can you get tickets from before hand? I looked online but is it just the places similar to ticket master who are a 3rd party?

I bought mine through Grandstand Motorsports. It also organised our hotels / transfers - and the same for the Belgian GP the weekend previously. Cannot comment on any other procurement route, I'm afraid. Grandstand gets a big thumbs up from me; just booked USGP tickets from there.

I did this last year as a road trip last year. We stayed in Merate, which was 25 minutes or so north+east of the circuit. Driving to the circuit from this direction, even on race day was very easy, with barely any queues. Parking was 20 euros per day.

We only had general admission. this gives you most grandstands on Friday, and general admission areas on Saturday and Sunday.

Inside of the Second Lesmo for general is fine, as it has a screen and low stands, though nothing much happens there.

The east side (outside) of Ascari has a stand for general admission, though there is no screen visible. If you stand on the other side of the track on the exit, there's s a great view, though Standing is all it is.
