Just to add - I can't take anything away from the fella, he comes across as a really nice chap, he's a former World Champion and he's scribbled into the record books as having the 10th best race:win ratio and 9th best pole:race ratio. Not a bad effort for 'the son of Graham'.

A colleague sold him an Espace about 6 or 7 years ago, he said he was lovely; his wife not so much!!

Never met the bloke,but he was the F1 driver I rooted for. Was gutted when he was rammed by a certain german multiple champion,on the way to the title in 1994. Damon seemed a decent, uncomplicated chap, who said what was on his mind.
Don't forget,he was the driver who pulled williams gp together,after the death of Ayrton Senna.

I ran into him in the tunnel under the track at Thruxton in 2006. He was supporting his son. The (non Motorsport) orientated mate I was with didn't know who he was. He was brilliant about it. Top bloke in my opinion.

Damon and dad Graham share the distinction of both having raced under number zero: Damon in F1 1993 with Williams (the champ & rightful holder of #1, Mansell, having emigrated to Indycar) and again in 1994 with 93 champ Prost having retired; Graham at Le Mans 1963, with the Rover-BRM gas turbine car with number 00, driving in a special category.

I was lucky enough to have met Damon in the 80s and again about 5 years ago and found him to be totally pleasent and friendly chap. A good bloke in my opinion and I have met a few "famous" drivers.

Always respected Damon because he got his success the hard way. He worked and worked away and got his Williams seat.

Nice guy who didn't finish last. Should have had a longer career but his management didn't do him any favours near the end of '96 and the fact there weren't many seats around meant he ended up at Arrows or whatever they were called by that time.

I think he was a bit awkward on TV when he first started with Sky but has eased in to the role and is a great sparring partner for Johnny.

Herbert did a "evening with..." tour last year which was a good laugh, there was talk of him and Damon doing something similar this year, I hope they do!

Agreed on all counts. We did an evening with Damon and his dry wit really shone through.
