Okay, we know all the teams will be working round the clock, with genius minds fully engaged, but given Jerez and now Bahrain, what chance of the majority of cars completing a full GP in less than a month's time? Could it be carnage, with Caterham winning their first race, or will it settle down to business as usual?
Time for a sweepstake.

22 minus 6 Renaults = 16?

I'm not 100% serious about that but have voted 15-16.

14-16. I think crashes may have more of a say in finishing numbers to be honest. There's usually at least one safety car in Melbourne for that reason.

I am kind of hoping they go hell for leather to find the limits. That will mean the odd "breakage".

I think 3.

It'll be a total disaster with cars breaking down left right and centre. Max Chilton will get a podium...

Should this question be appended with an "with out crashing" clause?

It used to be quite normal to have 6-8 finishers in Australia, it was only continuity of rules that made that a thing of the past.

It'll be fking carnage.

I think we should include crashes. So; 3 lost to crashes, 3 to over-heating, 4 to other mechanical failures, and 2 run out of fuel-10 finishers.
I have to say, given the uber-reliable cars of recent years, I'm rather looking forward to it.

I'm confidently predicting that the majority of the Renault powered cars will DNF, so I'm going for 15-17 finishers.

Personally, the first 3 or four races are going to be very interesting.

In terms of reliability and performance, it's fair to say all of the Teams are working around the clock to find and iron out technical issues, packaging, cooling et al. And actually get a grip with how the cars perform on track rather than in a simulator.

2014 is going to be a season based entirely on reliability. Its refreshing to see Teams such as RBR/FER/MCL on (almost) the same page as the chaps further down the pitlane - for now, at least. I'm sure that will change as the season progresses and the Teams get a proper handle on their package and the Barcelona upgrades kick in. Sure, it may be asking too much, but i'd love to see the likes of Bottas/Bianchi/Kobayashi in to Q3 - and Hell, maybe scoring some points too. Really upset the apple cart and bring something to the sport that for the last few seasons has been lacking - the fans want to see excitement and overtaking - bring on Friday morning in Melbourne, it's going to genuinely be exciting to see who ends up where on the time sheets.

I think the mercedes powered cars will mostly be ok and the factory ferrari.

Beyond that it's going to be a challenge to see any of them on the podium.

I've gone with 12-14. I do think that the Marussias and Caterhams are in with a very real chance of scoring a point or two.

The Mercs have been designed as a complete package. I would assume that this will give them an advantage over the other Merc-engined cars, probably for the season.

Just going to look forward to the first race. Just hoping we don't get to much fuel saving and more racing

That could almost be true, although he would probably only get half points on account of being so slow he would not have made 75% race distance by the time the winners crossed the line.

TBF, Caterham haven't crashed out of an Australian GP yet.
