Just saw this picture posted on youtwitface and couldn't help noticing the designation of this year's Dancing Donkey, the F14T .... the FIAT !!! I hope for Kimi and Fred's sake that's not going to be the old Fix It Again Tomorrow moniker, although at the moment that title is Red Bull's.

There's no consistency in the cars' nomenclature, is there?

It's pretty remarkable how long they kept the Marlboro barcode going...

It was only pointed out to me recently that they are actully Marlboro red - not Ferrari Red, I had just got used to the brighter shade.

They still pay Ferrari a small fortune in sponsorship.

Marlboro owns the livery, then they sell it to other parties. Quite lucrative for them iirc.

Arrr okay. Seems a strange set up - but I guess its an interesting way for a company that has to be 'censored' to still be part of the sport.

I wasnt too sure how true the 'Marlboro red' story was, but now it makes more sense.

The omen on the Red Bull is worse than being called a FI4T - as pointed out in another thread the Red Bull RB10 is spoken as Red Bull are beaten.

And on the Ferrari there is half a Marlboro logo on the engine cover, still not quite worked out how they get away with it.

Is it because it's Ferrari?

Surely not, they are treated exactly the same as everyone else aren't they wink

Actually, it is much more than an F1/FIA issue which is why it is surprising they get away with it. There was general pressure which led to the removal of the barcode, the current scheme is just as bad in my view. I will add that I have no objection in principle to what is being done or even tobacco advertising in general (as a marketer I think that a product legally allowed to be sold should be able to be promoted provided there is openness and transparency in relation to potential harm) I just am surprised they are able to get away with it.

I am sure I heard Alonso rename last years model the F4RT.

Wasn't that what upset Monty?

Heh

The cars, like most modern F1 cars, are virtually indistinguishable at first glance.

Clearly lots of differences on close inspection, but the packaging is virtually identical; hence they aren't getting 'uglier' or 'prettier'.

In any event, what has prettiness got to do with F1?

I don't know about that, lest we forget the class of 2008 with the weird static wheel covers and all manner aero crap hanging off them.

Worse from above and from the front that shows the horrible narrow rear wing that came in a few years ago.
