I'm going to book grandstand tickets for Monza this week. From everyone's feedback, the best place to be is 6c Alta Velocita. However it isn't covered - is this necessary? When I went to Spa, a cover was necessary to keep the rain off, but would it just be for the beating sun of Monza? I don't fancy sitting on the pit straight, so Plan B would be Parabolica with a cover.

Take a sun hat (seriously) Monza generally tends to be lovely and sunny, except when it rains. I wouldn't worry.
Enjoy Monza I'd say it's probably the best F1 experience in Europe smile

You would be unlucky to have rain, head protection against the sun is more important.

We chose the stand in the middle of the Ascari chicanes. They are south facing, diamond screen opposite, handy for the walk across to the pits area and good for battles under braking. Tifosi with the huge Ferrari banner were in the next grandstand which made the whole atmosphere more enjoyable.

My number one tip would be to take some foam to cushion your backside form the steel planking of the bench. After 3 days it becomes unbearable.

I've sat just before the parabolica (I think 21a) and was just before the pits (23) in 2012. I enjoyed both seats.

I echo the above, in 2012 the heat was incredible and there was no wind to speak of in the tightly packed Grandstands to cool us down.

The time before there was torrential rain, but luckily not during actual quali or the race, so we just found shelter in a bar at the circuit(which happened to have a pole dancer performing - only in Italy :-s)

You'll have a blast, Monza is great, make sure you do a bit of treking to check out the old banking etc and get onto the track and close to the podium ASAP after the race, brilliant atmosphere.

100% walk around - I walked from stand to stand during the race (had a special pass) but it was really worth seeing the old banking
Enjoy smile

I would go covered if you can,

We went GA, however sat on the first chicane Friday last year - I'm not a sweaty guy, but it was running off my face constantly during FP2,

Having said that for Saturday Quali, I managed to get right in the top corner on the outside if T1 (chicane) and under some shade - I can tell you it was soo much nicer and still a good view.

Defo take a cushion or buy one there around the circuit - the corrugated iron pattern imprinted in your rear end is almost as unbareable as the heat!!

Rain on Sunday lasted 20mins and it dried out quickly.

Great weekend - you will have a blast!

Any uncovered stands take a hat and plenty of sunscreen and water.
I had weekend tickets for alta velocita, Saturday was quite a hot day, sitting in it all day soon gets to you. Sunday was much more bearable.
Make sure to get in the track at the end for the podium, great atmosphere. It's a fair old run from alta velocita mind.

Thanks for all of the advice. I'll be packing a cushion, hat and sunblock. For the track invasion & podium at the end, are all of the marshals gates opened or is it only around stands 24 and 26?

This!! The concrete grandstands are no easier on your arse either.

As for whether a covered stand is preferable it does get damn hot. If you are quick you can nab shaded areas on the covered stands. Its not that bad though. I didn't get burnt and I've managed that at Thruxton in March!

The Marshall gates just by the pit exit were opened, you will have to get a shift on to get out the stand, turn right run through the trees and right again by the pits and onto the track.

(Thanks, woof, for pointing me at this thread).

I'm also working out whether/where to go.

It seems the budget option is the Prato general admission ticket: "This ticket provides access to the General Admission areas at Monza, which run around the inside of the circuit at the Curva Biassono, Lesmo, Curva del Serraglio and Parabolica.
Seating is on grassy mounds, or small stands of 3-4 rows, and views vary greatly so get to the track early to claim a good spot. Some fans prefer the freedom to move around the circuit offered by a General Admission ticket, as well as the space to spread out." At about £75 instead of the £130-300 for some of the stands.

If the seats are so uncomfortable anyway, maybe this is worth considering. Any thoughts?
