According to Adam Cooper's F1 blog, looks like he's in the running for a Caterham drive.

Waste of time/career going for that seat, just to be "in" F1.

He could have forged a good career in GT/WEC racing!

Kobayashi was an interesting racer, at least as good if not better than some of the guys who currently have mid field seats....

But as others have said.... taking a seat at Caterham isn't exactly going to do much for his career is it? He has had plenty of time to impress in F1 and none of the big teams wanted him so what is going to change if he does a couple of seasons with Caterham? What he needs is wads of cash to buy a decent seat....... Maldonado and Sutil come to mind...

I think that these drivers have to "forget" that F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport.........because it just isn't any more.
Don;t compromise your principals and careers for a rubbish drive.

Am I wrong in think he's racing GT cars for Ferrari at the moment?

Better to try for WEC with Toyota, I'd have thought.

You lot must be mad. Kobayashi should jump at any opportunity in F1. Caterham and Murussia have their part to play- any F1 drive is one of the ultimate shop windows for attracting sponsor interest.

If he brings some decent money with him, he may have a shot at a seat. If he doesn't bring money he won't get it. Let's face it, Caterham already gave an experienced driver on the roster and have VDG's money too...so what's the reason for bringing Kobayashi in, other than having both seats funded?

Quite possibly. Bear in mind that the order may get a little shook up this year - if there's any time to make a step change, a big rule evolution is the time to do it.

Given Fernandes' relationship with Ghosn with the Caterham/Alpine tie-up, surely this is currently as likely as Montezemelo bring named as best man at Alonso's wedding?...

I'd guess that other racing series have a longer shelf-life with regards to age etc. F1 seems to be a very narrow window so I can understand Kobayashi going for another punt at it. Hey, if he shows some consistency to his instinct, a mid-field team might notice him.

For me, F1 has become a parody but I do wish the guy luck. He's a much needed character.

I was hoping he would have joined Toyota's WEC effort given their past relationship. He has to be better than Nakajima at the very least.

Yes and not even in the number one team car and in the 3rd level of racing class. He's playing junior partner to Olivier Beretta that well known F1 non-point scorer for Larrouse in the 1994.

I was hoping for Kovalainen making a comeback, but I have to say that Koba with 5 million euros and the Japanese marketing potential is a better deal than Kova. Mind you Koba is good (and entertaining)enough to warrant a paid drive!

Hope that's true. It'll be good to see him back, yet another talent overtaken by someone not as quick but having more money.

Oh I hope so. I can't wait to see him win the last of the late brakers contest...
