Well they are not that good in my opinion, I'm looking forward to hearing something different. Anyway, NOTHING sounds as good as the 2000 mclaren merc.

The V8 engines this time around sounded crap.

But that McLaren doesn't sound as good as a Matra V12.

I never liked the sound of the modern V8s. Just caught a bit of the 2000 German GP on Sky whilst making dinner, the V10s were immense.

V10s are where it's at. Nothing sounds the same and whilst the V12s where nice the V10s have such a harder edge and are generally more shouty. When you're stood next to them this is what you really appreciate wink

Having experienced the v10's up close, the v8's sounded pants in comparison. They really did nothing for me. I do worry however that we may end up wishing for the v8's again with the new for next year v6's

V10's were the best sound high spinning engines... current v8 I do not like at all. Just give me 100% happiness with any 60's/70's Italian v12 or a DFV any day thank you.

Yeah I caught some of that yesterday and thought the same, they sounded immense! Also the old track was so much better, it was different to any other track seeing the cars flat out through the forest sections.

you haven't heard the engines in a car yet. No point in passing sentence until after the first race.

This V12 would ask that you reconsider...6:38 onwards is all that you need to hear http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX9DldzpS7Y

Pass of 3 at the timed mark is V10, followed by V10 (they might have been V8s, they were both sounding the same) followed by V12

There's V8, V10 and V12 power from many Ferrari's from 95-2008 at Spa.

1995 V12 for me smile

I refer the right honourable gentlemen to the turbocharged CART engines: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdsbRdGKkQo

Admittedly these were V8s but they didn't rev as high as an F1 engine...

To be honest and without wanting to play the 'retro' card but I was happiest when there was a variety of engine configurations available. V8, V10, V12 etc.. Adds variety and ingenuity smile

Yep! 2000/2001 cars with the periscope exhausts are quite an experience to be next too! The foot or so reduction in exhaust secondary length makes them ever angrier than the 99 cars with the same motor!
