Now confirmed - a logical choice for both for the new regs in 2014.

Will be interesting to see if Massa can turn round this once great team. I hope so as i have warmed towards him over the past couple of seasons.

Would be good to see Williams back at the top - maybe a complete change is what they need to recover their former 'top team' status.

Time, & 2014, will tell.

Really hoping to see Williams back on top , I hear Smedley may be following him as well , dreaming of hearing - "Fernando is P3 behind you , good lad !" https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=5364617164...

We can hope .. maybe the new rules will be a good shake up.

Those that favour reliabitily rather than speed may well have an advantage for the first 5 races.

Unfortunately I don't think it will change much for either party. Massa hasn't performed since his accident and Williams haven't been able to build a winning car for years. I don't see that this will change.

I knew someone would bring that up the moment I hit submit, haha.

A consistently winning car, I should have said. That was their first win since 2004 if my scan of Wikipedia didn't miss anything?

hehe a consistent winning car is yes propbably the way to put it. I think last years car could have been great and certainly challenged lotus regularly had their drivers been a bit more competent. If Maldonado hadn't been as inconsistent he could have put in some great results.

Maldonado: I wanted to leave, really:

Yeah. Wonder how far he would have got without a big, fat wad of cash behind him.

Williams testing 2014 parts on this years car now (not sure anyone else is doing that)
Massa wanting to prove himself, alongside a fast Finn.
Mercedes power in 2014, rumoured to be the best engine.

I think other than Ferrari, McLaren or Red Bull, Williams are the next best choice for a drive next year.

Testing 2014 parts or taking of 2013 parts they got so badly wrong it was slowing down the car? Being serious I do hope they deliver a good car but there haven't been many glimmers of hope for the past few years.

Red bull at the very least have had the 2014 front wing on at points.

Always been fond of Williams, since the Nige days. But always a bit wary of Honda. Even in the Mansell days there were stories of the "man from Japan" having his fingers on the engine controls in the pits, and Williams having to dance to Honda's tune.

Mercedes drivers were all signed up so there was never an open seat.

There was never an open seat at Ferrari or RBR at the time Massa was replaced. In any case I'm not sure Massa ever had much 'choice'.

From the days of AJ and FW06 Williams have been an impressive team loved by so many British fans. To see them now as the worst performing of all the established teams is awful. Frank and Patrick must wonder what the hell has happened to their once great team. Taking Massa for next year a man well and truly on the way down, makes you think that this is a team looking to survive more than win? I would love them to prove me wrong.

What engines are Williams using next year? And how long is the deal?

I think the Massa plan is more a consolidation plan. They want an experienced driver to give feedback on the car etc whilst Bottas builds up experience. The fact he potentially comes with sponsorship is even better.

regazzoni was on the way down in 1979 when Frank took him on as a number 2 to Alan. He scored their first win.
