went in 2012, had a great time, food was great (snuck into Chuck Hughes's place on the off chance, they squeezed us in), the venue was great, we dealt with some student protests, and visited with family as well.
Montreal wasn't cheap, but the whole trip was my 40th birthday present, I can't recommend it highly enough.

Definitely go.
Have been twice in last few years and had a great weekend. The whole city turns into a great big party, live bands, street fairs etc. if you stay in the city it's an easy subway ride to the circuit, 2 or 3 stops and you pop up on the island. We stay in the McGill university lodgings, basically a cheap, clean hotel, right in the city and near to the subway. Great value.
At the circuit we have always got tickets on the exit from the hairpin. Great views and the cars are really close to the crowd. And it's also just opposite a huge tv screen. I think the whole weekend was cheaper than a single day at Silverstone.
