Now that Flavio is associated with the team, any number of individuals will be seeing what is possible, including outright purchase of the team. Wouldn't put it past Sainz Snr, with his contacts and possible backers, to be enquiring about the team rather than a seat next year. If Jnr can't find a suitable seat, investigate alternative options....
That would be an interesting proposition but I don't think Carlos Snr is mad enough to want his own F1 team even with someone else's cash
There were rumours a few months ago of Anthony Hamilton putting together some sort of deal; I wonder what happened to that ?

If Anthony Hamilton gets proven to be the orchestrator of a deal of that scale then I send £50 to the Grand Prix Trust.

Seriously, he's not a player in this market.

With the insane price of an F1 team now it'd take some serious effort for even Lewis to get that sort of investment into a team and him going into ownership would be as marketable as is possible for a 'new' team.

I suspect Lewis could do it as the lead of a consortium.

Maybe as a name to help promote it, but on his own he's no history of leading an organisation to success.

I couldn't disagree more, what he's done within the sport carries serious clout. I'm not saying he's the most amazing person in the world ever, ever but as a figurehead he would bring in massive investment.

That's what I mean, but with his own money as a starter. Not to run it other than as an advisor or brand ambassador.

It's amazing isn't it... The idea that dodgy old git could these days be a prime choice of TP rofl

The French have literally resorted to "well, he worked 20 years ago" and with a massive French shrug and snort, the decision is made, he's back!

I still believe they're just doing 'stuff' to remain mildly relevant whilst behind the scenes, the team is for sale. And I doubt the new owners will want the befuddled old cheat at the helm when that happens.

He's not TP, nor is he in charge of anything. He's just the special advisor to the CEO, in a similar role to Helmut Marko.

I bet Sainz will be next signing for them. Reasonable profile to help build the value of the team as they prepare for sale.

Agree

Announce Sainz, then an engine deal with Mercedes (or Honda?) for 2026, then sell...

Uncle Joe’s Barcelona Notebook, with an awful lot of silly season stuff in it.

Last weekend’s announcement that never happened was about Carlos, he’s either going to Williams or Audi, I suspect Audi from the way it’s written.

Lawson for Ricciardo over the summer is also probable.

Why would he sign for a team without even knowing what engine they will have, let alone all their other issues? Especially if he thinks the team will be sold during his time there. I think the chances of Carlos to Alpine are close to zero.

Something intervened in Sainz decision if the expectation was an announcement in Barcelona. Alpine may offer something the other two don't, in his opinion. Who knows what the parties are offering?

Briatore is well plugged into the driver market so it'd be anything but a surprise to me if Sainz ended up at Alpine.

If Stroll is resigned for Aston Martin then we can rule out the thin chance of Adrian Newey going there. One of his demands would have been driver choice and he wouldn’t have accepted Daddy’s little boy no matter how big the pay packet.

The chances of Newey going to the Aston Martin Le Mans project may be a different matter altogether….
