I'm not sure he is. Piastri has commented that he thinks Seargent is very quick (and he should know, he raced against him for long enough) and is puzzled at the loss of pace in F1.

He is most definitely a pay driver.

As for his pace, he won't be the first fast driver that simply failed to extend their career successes once they reach F1 level. Although his career successes' were not that great in the first place..

The slowest car and driver on the grid is the one that's in the barriers - no matter how quickly they got there.

Williams are sometimes in the hunt for a point or two and having Sargeant in the car is literally halving the team's chances of them every week
