He's not doing that great in F2 though is he? At best on current form I'd say a Williams seat. Unless he wins F2 champ this season, let him have another season in F2.
That isn’t really the way it is recently. F2 is clogged with career F2 drivers with one or more seasons under their belt, some of them very good at F2 now. Teams can’t really expect rookie championship wins anymore. Hustle_ said:

I can’t see why Mercedes a global brand putting millions into F1 would risk putting a 17 year old into their car next year when Carlos Sainz is available.
Isn’t it more that Carlos wants a long term contract and Mercedes are only willing to offer a year? So more Carlos stalling rather than Mercedes not wanting him. Hence why the rumour is he’s off to Williams as they are offering him a multi year. wiliferus said:

Carlos deserves a top seat. He's done a fantastic job, but for us, we've embarked on a route now to say...we want to reinvent ourselves a little bit going forward and Kimi Antonelli definitely plays a part in that. We haven't taken a decision yet for next year but we didn't want to have Carlos wait as well because he needs to take the decisions for himself. That's just fair. He's doing a super job.

And tbh the Antonelli offer being dependent on Max not accepting his offer, whilst not officially confirmed, makes so much sense that I'm inclined to believe it..
Related on a tangent but McLaren haven't covered themselves in glory with how they've handled their Indycar team this year.
After sacking David Malukas earlier this year because his recovery from a mountain biking accident was taking longer than expected (2 days after making statements that they're helping him with his recovery) they signed Theo Pouchaire for the rest of the season and explicitly stated as such on the press release.
Theo came in and has been doing very well for a rookie but now a couple of months later he's been sacked with 2 days notice to put Nolan Siegel in the car, because his dad is worth hundreds of millions and brings lots of $$$.
And Brown had the Temerity to describe RB as fostering a toxic atmosphere ha.
Poor chap, hope he gets another shot, another F2 champion available for F1 next year now...
