People will always be able to come up with some reason as to why the driver they dislike is being favoured while one they do support has achieved everything only by his ability......

Indeed, some do smile
Max is undoubtedly quicker than Checo (and overall a more complete driver, reflecting his special class). Just not that much quicker when all things are equal.

I think Max is just a far better driver tbh!

I can't say I've seen any obvious max haters in this debate about checo - but obviously it's true that Max will enjoy some advantages as No1.

He was not pushing. It would have been more if he was.

that's wrong.

LN was reeling him in, in a faster car. Norris said as much (maybe he's as daft as me, but I doubt it). I am very much looking forward to more battles between them.

I think Verstappen had to work for the win on Sunday, although in the last stint he was probably coasting a bit and could have won by more than two seconds. It's been common in F1 since Fangio to win at the slowest possible speed.

Nonetheless, I think Verstappen is delivering at the moment, the last couple of wins have been far from the demonstration drives he's enjoyed over the last 2.5 years.

I agree that he's crap in that seat.

But I always think it's a bit naive to assume that means he should go.

The mechanics of F1 are not that simple. It's perfectly obvious why he's the perfect driver for the seat.
I don't think it is, there should be a second driver scoring a bit higher than the distance apart they are, no?
That depends on what Red Bull are wanting. As previously mentioned by somebody on another thread there could be an advantage to winning the WDC but not the WCC in terms of wind tunnel time etc. If this is the Red Bull idea then SP is perfect for them. Historically Red Bull have always been a 'one driver' team.

Norris's face said it all on Sunday. He was absolutely gutted not to win. He knew, and stated, he had the fastest car. Contrast with Hamilton, who was absolutely beaming to get third.

He was and he's only 2 away from his 200th.

He had a fair few slides and corrections for a guy that wasn't pushing. Not what we normally see from Max cruising.

Max was cruising at a pace to win. Norris was never winning that race.

The crap articles about how LN 'could have won' are all based on Max's race pace, which could easily have been quicker - but wasn't because it would be stupid to push if you don't have to.

Lando gaining was safe for Max, it didn't matter. So long as he wasn't gaining quickly enough to be a threat, it made sense for Max to drive gently and let him start to catch. Catching isn't a threat if you're mathematically easily crossing the line first.

There was no battle, there was no chance for LN.. there was just RBR walking it and saving as much PU strain as possible.

There was absolutely nothing to show that verstappen's race pace 'could easily have been quicker'. Norris made it very difficult for himself with a poor start and failing to pass Russell unlike Verstappen but stating there was no battle and no chance for him with Red Bull walking it is rather odd given what actually happened in the race.

Nothing happened in the race regarding Max.

He passed Russell then cruised to an easy win.

MV reminds me somehow of N. Djokovic; disliked by many because of their character but so incredibly good at what they do, that quite often they seem unbeatable

Yeah I am not sure I am buying the 'he's not pushing'.

That sums up my thoughts on both of them - a grudging admiration is where I've got to.
