You are paying a significant amount of money for the hotel, and even more to attend the circuit. Wear what you want to wear. Sod them.
Sod who?

If he turns up and feels completely out of place then it’ll likely spoil what would otherwise be a great day out.

I imagine the hotel is being provided to the OP. Finding a local(ish) 5* hotel in the days leading up to the GP would be a slight miracle.

I can't see how he would feel out of place.

This is how Sam Ryder turned up on the grid a couple of years ago.

If the OP is attending in a business capacity he needs to make a judgement on what his clients will expect him to dress like.

But if he's purely following the dress code, 'smart casual' is basically code for "wear what you want but don't take the piss"

Who? Those who dictate to others, using whatever methods.

Why should he feel out of place if he wears what he wants to? It's not as if it's a funeral.

Probably.

If, as he suggests, the customers will be hanging on his every word, I would wear an armadillo-skinned posing pouch and hobnail boots.!

Help! I am, last minute attending the Silverstone GP as a VIP. Since Pistonheads doesn't have a "how to get dressed" section, it's all going in here.

I don't want to go into details of the who, what, when, where how etc...

Just know, that this weekend I spent my time driving a tractor, and as I look down at my lap I see multiple grease stains, rips, and holes in my T-shirt, that's older than my children.

This weekend, for 3 to 4 days, I will need to perform. I will need a shave, haircut and to put on my best-smiling face. I'm staying in a 5-star hotel, and, if I turn up looking like this I think I might hear some screams.

I will also be spending a lot of time being carted about as a "VIP". I assume through the paddocks and garages. I will avoid the TV cameras if I can.

And so... what do I wear? I can get a haircut and just about wash myself. but clothes are another thing altogether. I usually find something that works for me and then buy 10 of them at the same time so I don't have to think about it again for years.

"Smart casual", is all I have to go on. Help"
Jeremy... I don't understand, you've never made any sort of effort before confused

The exact person I thought of as the author when I first read it too.

I would honestly just go as yourself and not try to conform to some idea of what you think is expected. The only thing that matters is the colour of the pass around your neck.
This begs another question... what's the best colour? AND, do I have it around my neck whilst doing my best Borat "look at me look at me" impression, or shove it in a pocket?

Also... going as myself would probably offend a few too many people. In this instance, it's not the smell.
Stuff ‘em! Go as you are, enjoy it, and who knows, maybe you’ll start a new fashion trend!

Nice watches don't have batteries. But I might be harbouring an old-fashioned opinion on that - plenty seem to wear an Apple watch and I wouldn't dream of it. Manual or self-winding only for me.
