What's the weather gonna be like?

EDIT - Just checked, rain.

Am I getting my hopes up wishing it'd be like 2011?

Yes. Because these days a crap tonne of rain means endless delays and cancelled or truncated running.

Hope for short, sharp downpours at inconvenient times. It has to be the right sort of bad weather smile

I'm seeing rain all weekend except Sunday afternoon which is forecast sunny with a 40% chance of showers , generally hot and humid .

I don't know why people get excited about rain anymore.

Modern f1;

They won't run in it.

You'll sit there for hours listening to croft talk ste.

If they do it will be behind the safety car until it's dry.

Then if it rains they'll red flag it.

Certainly enough rain around to reset any track evolution over the course of the weekend. Also no support series to put rubber down ahead of the F1 sessions.

It's going to be a tricky weekend I reckon, there's no way it won't be affected in part by the weather.

I'm looking forward to this one more than any race in a while. It looks like it could genuinely be close on pace between five different drivers with the potential for weather to mix things up a bit too.

So now it'll be bone dry and someone will win by 30 seconds. hehe

Thanks. It's my goto thread for checking TV times.

I like this circuit a lot too.

I'm sure my right shoulder is still a bit 'dicky' after punching the air and shouting when Button made 'that' pass on Vettel.

Epic, epic race...

Doubt this year will be anywhere near as good, but we can always hope (which is what keeps drawing me back to F1).

Hope is all that draws me back these days - it's certainly not interest!

That pass was Vettel throwing it off and Jenson cruising past a stupid looking Vettel paddling for grip. It wasn't an overtake.

I just knew someone would say this...

I'm not going to engage in a debate on this one - your opinion differs from mine and that's cool.

Well, Seb succumbed under pressure and Jens just drove by. But Jens had caught him up and applied that pressure,

Shame Jens took (a much faster) Lewis out early on (for which he later apologized).

So.. almost guaranteed heavy rain for both sessions today.

If quali were cancelled do they take fastest laps from the last run practice session?

Ah. That's frustrating, was hoping to see a bit of practice tonight.

Not sure of the procedure if there are no laps run.

Yes.

They’ll do anything to avoid cancelling qualifying, including running it on Sunday morning, but if they can’t find a window they’ll use the last session’s practice times to set the grid.

Good, that should guarantee they'll let some laps run today no matter what then - in case tomorrow is a complete write off.

Don't get me wrong, I want 'some rain', but not so much it ruins the weekend.

Vettel made that mistake because he was pushing under pressure from Button.

Not all rain is alike. They only time they'll red flag it is if it's properly wet - the sort of rain you'd struggle to drive a road car in.

Rain can add a touch of added jeopardy, even things out and gives rise to some interesting strategy and exciting racing. The fact that it rarely does this doesn't detract from the enjoyment of anticipation that it will.

Vettel made that mistake because he was pushing under pressure from Button.
Repeated it in the Ferrari at Hockenheim in 2018, under pressure from Lewis.
