For some reason he ducked out first, perhaps there is a physical fitness issue that's a factor in that.. or maybe he just doesn't handle heat particularly well.
He has only just recovered from a bad cold/flu according to the team so would have been run down.

That’s fair dos then. If he’s been sick already and trying to compete while already ill then you can understand him having to retire for physical reasons. I was only watching the highlights show and at the point I made my initial post nobody else seemed to be struggling. Obviously as the highlights progressed it became apparent others were suffering. F1 and the FIA really need to assess whether it’s a suitable venue at that time in the season.

Could have happened to any driver yesterday, and it's really harsh to criticise or question SAR fitness purely off the back of this extraordinary weekend.

You can criticise him for going off yet again and causing yet another safety car in the Sprint........

There really isn't another driver out there that could do the job.... You could look at Ericsson, he's been amazing in Indycar. Otherwise Pourchaire might do a better job!!

Or.... you could do a RedBull and try and get the really young Ollie Bearman.... give him a few years to develop.....?????

Edited to say Bearman might struggle with Super license points.... a problem Verstappen didn't need to worry about!

No way would anyone be able to prepare for the conditions in Qatar. You would have to experience them first.
My only gripe with sargeant logan was he said he wasn't feeling well and they left it up to him. So he soldiered on for a few more laps.
Team should have took responsibility and order him in.
As for the driver reaction to the conditions. Lance gave a good assesment. Basically ,too hot, cant see, late change to track, masses of penalties.
What sort of wkers run this sport?

I think they handled it better than USA 2005, though that was a low point.

Alex Brundle made some interesting comments on Twitter about the conditions for the drivers. He's hopeful that now that F1 has been affected, it might focus minds on a problem which other forms of motorsport have been affected by for a long time.

Yeah some not so good reports really. Not sure how Ocon got on with it.

I agree Sargeant hasn't been good enough but seeing him get out of the car, literally dripping from his helmet, elbows and backside as he was held on the halo is a warning sign about racing in these locations.

I think he just got dehydrated quicker than everyone else due to not drinking during the race.

Again Logan caused a safety car that robbed (in today's race) Norris of a ten second lead.

I'm not sure if I am more frustrated by Logan's crashes or the stupid safety car rules that mean the race order at the point a safety car in announced is not preserved when the safety car comes in.

I am sick of Logan and/or safety cars robbing drivers of hard won leads. The FIA need to sort out the latter.

Safety cars are great!

The cars close up and we get a sniff of some racing. It's better than watching Max have a 20 second lead before the SC and retain it to drive off even further into the distance.

It's a real shame that you can ruin race after race, quali after quali, and there's nothing in the rule book to have your dumb ass removed from the series.

When Williams told him he would be replacing Latifi, he took it way too literally.

Perhaps I can refer the honourable gentleman to Yuji Ide.

When his car was given to Albon in Melbourne Joe Saward said something like "I hope Sargeant held back the payment for that race", implying he pays to drive for them (like Latifi).

Does he actually pay Williams, or does he bring sponsorship with him like Checo? Or, is it a grey area?

His family pay for his seat, they just don't demand sponsorship in return - so it's generally overlooked by the media.

He's so bad that he wasn't good enough to get a paid seat in return for sponsorship, only hard cash could justify it..

The team claim he doesn't bring funding, which might technically be true - I think his family are paying for capex improvements to the teams facilities which would mean they aren't paying the team a penny, but do have a financial agreement with the teams owner.

He's a stealth pay driver. Or at least he is until he actually drives, and proves he is indeed a pay driver by constantly being hopeless.

In fairness, he hasn’t had the best equipment.

Although, listening to the James Vowels interview on Sky speculating about Sainz going to Williams, he seemed to be conveying serious determination, ambition and investment for the team, so let’s see what 2026 brings.

I'm not sure he is. Piastri has commented that he thinks Seargent is very quick (and he should know, he raced against him for long enough) and is puzzled at the loss of pace in F1.
