Rumours Hyundai looking to get into F1.
Korean GP incoming I bet...
Could be worth watching if they run the track in the DMZ - something reminiscent of an episode of TopGear which ran through a course dodging tank artillery etc. wink

In a private test session Kim Jong Un lapped the Nurburgring in a Lotus 49 in 4m 35.2s. I can see a N Korean GP soon wink

Red Bull has just renewed Sergio Perez's contract for 2 more years!
That’s going to be holier than Swiss cheese! hehe
It could well be - they aren't adverse to a bit of mid season seat swapping, so if they lose 1st in the constructors I'd quite like to see Yuki be given an opportunity based on his recent performance.

And yet he's been there for nearly four years, and just been given another two years, without ever really being close to swapped out. They've had plenty of opportunities to do so, but it's never seemed like it was going to happen.

If Yuki hasn't had a chance by now then he isn't going to get one. His backer is leaving Red Bull after next season, so he's likely to be looking for another drive elsewhere then anyway. There's even been rumours that he might leave at the end of this year, so it could be Lawson and Ricciardo in the RB next year.

That's exactly the kind of driver a TP needs

Didn't a driver once say "if you no longer go for a demeaning number 2 contract offered to you specifically because you're not very good, you're no longer Sergio Perez"?

Yuki will be in an Aston Martin Honda... though he might have to wait a year on the sidelines for Lance to get bored.

I’m not entirely sure what to make of the Perez situation, it does smack a little bit of keeping max happy.

Max would be the better of him and Sainz, it was quite clear when they were teammates in TR that max was better, however I’m sure it would be a lot closer than with Perez which is probably where the issue lies, can’t have the chosen one having a hard time with a 2nd tier driver as it will lower his perception.

I’ve read today that Horner took over from marko in the sainz negotiations, and that signing Perez was Horner winning a battle, I can’t really get my head around that one, I’d have thought Horners best interest would be to sign the best driver available to put the verstappens in their place, but that’s not what happened, if max suddenly declares his commitment to redbull in the near future I think that answers some questions.

Maybe, but there's also a rumour that Alpine are fishing for a Honda engine deal for '26 so that Renault can abandon its plans for a new PU and make the team more saleable.

I've been saying this for ages-I'm not sure there's anything more in it than it would seem like the most sensible option for Renault if they actually do want out and folk like me putting 2+2 together.

French executive boards can be very stubborn and naive though...

Under the concorde agreement, if any engine manufacturer leaves and that leaves a team without an engine supply, the other manufacturers have to offer to supply.

If Renault want to close the engine operation, they can, Alpine don't have to have lined up a replacement supplier prior to doing that.

Indeed.

And in any case, there's a very real chance that the decision for Renault to wind up their PU manufacturing could be intertwined with the consideration of a sale to Andretti, who have a PU partnership lined up with GM from 2028 - I doubt they'd particularly care who supplies the PU until then, but they would care that the team they were buying didn't have a pre-existing commitment to Renault for beyond 2028. Without such a commitment from that team, as Renault's only PU customer, Renault effectively have to shut down their PU operation.

In other words, Alpine are only really saleable if the Renault PU op is disconnected from the team, and as a result canned.
