Max shows his quality again. Yes Lando mucked up the start but if your car only has a minuscule advantage over Max Verstappen’s you need to ace every single part of your race and Lando hasn’t the ability to do that.
That RedBull is still head and shoulders above any other car on race pace.mick987 said:

I’m not sure how you could watch that today and come up with that assessment. If Lando was ahead on the last stint the red bull wasn’t passing the McLaren.
The red bull still has a slight advantage on tyre management but it’s close.

A mere human, such as Perez, was nowhere again today.
I didn't see the race live and have just watched the recording. My views.
The McL, in the hands of Norris, was fractionally faster than the RB in MV's. A poor start by Norris compromised his race, costing him seconds on the first few laps, and then just as many after his tyre change. Given the start must have compromised their plans, the McL tactics gave Norris a chance. Praising McL tactics - times have changed. Had GR not tussled with LN after the pit stops, both may have gone up a place at the end.
I thought MV had slowed near the end to charge batteries and stuff, but he was pushing as fast as he could.
The Mercs are getting there, but still a way to go.
The Ferraris struggled a bit more than I thought they would. I know the circuit doesn't suit the car, or to put it another way, they too have a way to go on the improvement stakes, but even so, I felt they should have had the edge on the Mercs.
Perez drove like Perez. It was one of Gasly's good days. If only he could be consistent. The Alpines did remarkably well, if all the rumours about poor aero and overweight are to be believed. Alonso didn't seem fussed what happened.
An entertaining race. I enjoyed it. Shame I didn't watch it live.
The commentary was appalling, missing incidents happening on track, and misreadings of cars' identities and even which team car was driven by who.

Yup Max pulled 1 second on George in what, 6 corners?
It certainly looked like he was able to hold onto his qualifying / race start engine mode for a lap longer than anyone else. That early performance was truly startling compared to the Merc PU.But over the race distance that edge is not sustainable, Max made up the difference.
Considering Lando himself has said McLaren is the fastest car, I’m going to believe him over the PH collective.

Whilst walking away at such a pace he was never challenged. From 07:25: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojUQLuSqV4s&ab...
He was cruising.

They are very close. The difference is they generate the pace differently, the Red Bull being so much faster in a straight line at the start made the pass on Russell easy. The McLaren didn't have the top speed so lost time getting past slower cars and lost the race. Interesting race I thought.https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/annoyed-norris-...
Have there been new load tests applied recently or something to close up field? It has seemed obvious that the advantage Red Bull has had is with front wing and underfloor flexibility ( within the load test rules). Or have other teams just improved their flexibility?

Forgot to record it, so went straight to the highlights on YouTube. They showed the start, 12 overtakes at the DRS corner, two pitstops and the Russell/Norris battle.
Looks like I didn't miss much.
You missed watching things play out in real time, and with just the highlights you didn't experience building anticipation.Looks like I didn't miss much.
Race highlights are like reading the synopsis of a book. You know what happened, but you don't really care about any of it.

Not a bad race, a 6/10.
As the field is converging than Perez looks like a terrible choice for second slot.
Perez is certainly not in the team because of his driving skills. It would be a better thing for Red Bull to replace him with Yuki in the upcoming season or maybe sign Sainz. As the field is converging than Perez looks like a terrible choice for second slot.
