Can we rename the thread to dead elephant in the room??
Well in fairness today was the result of poor strat from his team was it not? Same as Charles.
Starting last didn’t help much. Even prior to RB’s bad early call for inters, I don’t think he was going anywhere.

He should have been able to pass the first ten cars in front of him what with him driving a red bull - but by lap 7 he had only passed one car - useless. If max had started at the back where would he get to by lap 7?

Top 10 easily.

We all know Perez isn't Max but F'in hell he's really not making any argument why he should keep his seat.

I'd try to sack him on the spot to be honest, but contracts etc means unlikely before summer break. Allegedly part of his contract demands is no more than 100 pts behind Max at summer break. Proper He's now 137 behind Max. Hungary may (should) be his last race.

These days he's just taking a seat someone more capable could use - get rid!

At this point there's little reason not to give Danny a last gasp hail mary shot in the RBR. He'll be compliant (which is why they won't entertain Yuki) and probably has a bit more hunger to prove himself than Checo has shown lately.
Not sure why but I feel the same now.

I was defending Checo, and to be fair Red Bull have continued to extend their WCC lead (albeit only because of Max), but he's really struggling with the car now. Nothing to lose (does the sponsorship really matter to them???). I'd put Daniel in the Red Bull, it's a team he knows and if he could at least get it into the top 6 with a few podiums over the 2nd half of the season then it should help them secure the WCC. If he doesn't then they're probably no worse off.

Harsh on Yuki who on performance is more deserving, but is an unknown quantity at that level and with that pressure. Stick Lawson in the other RB and give him a proper chance. And if Daniel doesn't perform then Yuki gets the promotion for 2025.

Find it very odd at the moment, the whole organisation has a reputation for ruthlessness in the past, yet they're dragging their heels and handing out 3rd/4th/5th/10th chances to some drivers...

It's because they've run out of drivers willing to put themselves through that. They always used to have someone else to plug in who was willing enough just for a chance in F1. Now they only have Lawson left waiting in the wings, and if he doesn't work out they're screwed because none of the established drivers want to go there.

Yep. My point, maybe not clearly made, was that his disaster race started once again with a terrible qualifying performance. There is only so much RB can do to 'strategy' him through the field and I think yesterday's failed gamble actually probably only came about because he was making so little headway so they took an enormous punt on going to inters early just to do something. It clearly didn't work. Perez stopped again (third stop I think as he ended up needng two sets of inters) only a couple of laps from the end and came out right in front of LH. I have to admit, I was slightly worried that he'd been tasked with being a road block but to his credit he dived straight out of the way. Maybe it was an attempt to steal fastest lap from one of Max's rivals but even that didn't work out. Total disaster of a weekend all round. Not exactly a one off these days unfortunately.

Even by his own woeful standards, finishing two laps behind his team mate was a new low. Never got close to getting points, finished more than a lap behind those that did trouble the scorers, and with a distinct lack of pace all weekend despite a load of new PU components for the race.

Perez pitted 4 times versus 2 for the front runners. Whether it was gambling, data gathering for Verstappen or a combination of the two, it added a good 40+ seconds onto his race time.

He shouldn't need team strategy to get him through the field. He's in a Red Bull, and should be able to at least make his way into the points on a track where overtaking is very possible.

I think the 2 laps thing is perhaps a slightly unfair reflection as he probably lost 30s+ on poor timing going to inters and that also meant he had to stop for a second set as the first set got cooked and then it looks like he probably had a unnecessary final pitstop to try to grab a lap time though maybe they should have just parked it! 4? pitstops vs 2 for most. That said, ignoring all that, I don't think he was going to trouble the top ten this weekend without any of that stuff. It's sad to see. I've never been a massive fan of Perez but he was never down at this level.

I’ve seen it so many times before in F1; a driver performs, outperforms when a contract is on the line only to fall back once said contract has been signed sealed and delivered. Horner has admitted that he thought the contract would spur Perez on to drive without fear, relaxed. Hindsight and all that that, but they shouldn’t have signed the contract as it’s had the opposite effect.
