Another solid qualifying performance from Perez. At what point do RB draw the line and give him the elbow. It’s a waste of a good seat.

Same for him and Ricciardo - maybe they have a shared drive with the dossier of evidence on mr horny?! How else are they holding onto their seats?

Yeah what's that now, the 6th or 7th time he's been out-qualified by Sargeant? spin

By all accounts, Liam Lawson is testing / driving the current car next week during a filming day at Silverstone, I guess they could be looking to drop Perez.

Wasn't Helmut Marko saying recently if riciardo maintains a decent run of form he could be promoted back to red bull?

But he hasn’t. Ric’s done nothing to justify a return to RB.

Just put £5 on at 275/1. Thinking Hockenheim 2000.

It depends what the team's definition of good form is. He's beaten his teammate at the last three races. When was the last time Perez beat his teammate?

Rather different calibre of team mate.

This has got to come to a head soon surely, with the other top teams winning and having two drivers scoring good points. It didn't matter last year when Verstappen won the constructor's championship on his own - but it does matter now!

It should matter, but the evidence suggests that the team (Max, Mario, CH, Jos…. Any or all….) are content with their second car bumbling around and reinforcing the Max-is-miraculous myth. Although currently getting a bit expensive on replacement parts, so someone who at least avoids the scenery or clattering with other cars might be preferable?

I don't think CH is content, with the amount of head shaking at Perez yesterday, and the interview at Austria saying stuff like "The last 5 races have been nowhere, we want to see the Sergio from the first 5 back", and "We thought the contract would help". Red Bull have got previous for mid season driver shuffles. After yesterday it's only made it more likely to happen.

News this morning is that the contract has a clause that he has to be within 100 points of Max at the Belgian GP.

119 and growing at the moment.

Think he'll be out at the summer break and I don't think anyone will be able to claim with a straight face that it's a harsh decision.

Similarly, Vowles this weekend very strongly hinted that Sargeant won't see out the season.

At this point there's little reason not to give Danny a last gasp hail mary shot in the RBR. He'll be compliant (which is why they won't entertain Yuki) and probably has a bit more hunger to prove himself than Checo has shown lately.

Interesting, I’ve just had a read of that myself. If true, that’s Perez back to Visa RB (or whatever the call themselves this week) as you can’t see him making inroads to Max’s points position.

I see it as a vain attempt to shore up Max' legacy, as Perez is badly underperforming to the point that everyone new to F1 can see Max is not superhuman. Not knocking Max as he can drive phenomenally and sublimely well most of the time, but I feel also there was an RB decision to make Max look far better by pitching him against a journeyman Perez - which would be great for the drinks preferred image.

But that’s the thing. A core gripe for anyone who isn’t just a blinkered Max fan, or otherwise knows nothing about F1, is that pitching Max against a journeyman does very little to elevate him to a true great. He needs to beat a top tier driver / champion in the same car to have a true legacy.
