Most likely as he wasn't driving a Ferrari. They don't support drivers as such.
They do. Mansell was even christened "Il leone" such was the love for him.

..... Hamilton’s toxic fan base .......
It's weird how individuals see things. I see other drivers with very very toxic fanbases, but I don't see Lewis Hamilton as one of them.
F1 is absolutely full of toxic fans since DtS and other promotional efforts brought them in.

Anyone who thinks that a certain team or driver has more toxic fans in the fringes of their fanbase is just showing up their bias.

If he has another outstanding season in the Williams I think it'll be Albon.
Thats the obvious one for me, Russell is the next #1 and Alonso would just ruin the team balance
Before dropping everyone it it in an attempt to avoid punishment himself... whistle

Does anyone have an option on Andrea Kimi Antonelli, in case he wins F2 this year...?

He didn't look overly enthused to be in the new Merc recently - this was posted by Merc themselves

Interestingly I read an interview with Allison recently where he said that Lewis' well known complaints that the driver was sat too far forward was essentially bogus and it was the poor handling characteristics he was actually feeling.

Is there a chance that this is a big PR stunt to generate interest in F1 in the runup to the season? I know this is a bit conspiracy theory-y and I can't think of anything the like happening before in F1 but under this management... I'd be less surprised if this turns out to be hot air than I would by the Hamilton Ferrari move!
Nah, that's just stuipid imo, no offence. Why would Ferrari participate in such a stunt? It's just unbecoming.
I mean if you meant no offence I can think of a number of ways you could've said what you're saying more tactfully hehe

Who's the last driver to win races for three or more different constructors? Kimi?

Well, he did say your comment was stupid, not you personally. That's pretty tactful by the usual standards of internet discussions.

I honestly can't be bothered replying to all the "hot takes" some people seem to have in here on LH and whether he's a good driver or not.

If the (arguably) greatest team ever in F1 are looking to hire him that should tell you all you need to know about his current performance level and potential.

On the news, he's always spoken about ending up at Ferrari. It's his career, if he gets to end it how he wants then I'm pleased for him. He's proven again and again he knows when to move on and take a chance. He's not doing Merc dirty, he has the break clause for a reason and I would be shocked if he hasn't had this exact scenario discussion with the team before.

As was said above, just the possibility of him winning in the Merc this year (almost impossible I know) and then going to Ferrari and becoming their saviour is brilliant. I'm here for it.

Good point by Buxton about Vasseur being there at the beginning.

Sir Lewis has clearly given up on Mercedes’ ability to provide him with the chance to win the 8th WDC he was robbed of in Abu Dhabi, so he has chosen to follow his dream and drive for Ferrari before he retires. I’m sure he knows he isn’t going to achieve justice by winning his championship there, but at least he will be able to retire as a Ferrari driver.

I hope it turns out to be the right move for him. He is a legend of motorsport and one of the greatest British sportsmen of all time. His decision to move to Ferrari will only enhance their status.

He's pitching himself against another exceptional young driver too.

Has anyone ever won WDC for three different teams in their career? Come to think of it what's the largest number of teams a driver has won a race with?

Lol yes, it's not as if he would be walking around with a permanent smile if he was happier, it's like the pap photo's of someone famous who's husband has just left them "looking glum" well TBH it is just a normal photo, they are out and about doing normal things.
