Didn't they recently move the Wall of Champions back a bit in recent years?

Looking forward to this!

With a combination of pressure at the top, (Max) momentum, (Ferrari & McLaren) I think we'll see at least one of the top 6 in the wall of champions either in qualifying or in the race. (Knowing how lady luck works, it will be Piastri or Norris, causing a safety car that kills the race win for the other!)

Redbull, Ferrari & McLaren on the podium, but no idea of the order. smile
It’s normally Ferrari with the comedy strategy calls, or one driver inadvertently ruining the race of the other by causing a safety car. A bit of adverse weather usually helps the chaos along.

Agreed that someone’s going to hit the wall, there being so little between the cars in all three qualifying sessions and where a tenth can mean several grid places. That said, it was surprising to see qualifying in Monaco pass without incident, and the race too after the first lap chaos.

I'm gonna say Piastri purely so he can join the debut win at Canada group

Thierry Boutsen, Jean Alesi, Lewis Hamilton, Robert Kubica and Daniel Ricciardo.

I'd like a Piastri win as well but suspect this is Max's race ...

Street track, the Red Bull isn't great on street tracks, so cannot see this being a Max walkover, I think one of the McLarens will be on the top step.

A questionable attempt at humour I think.

I think, despite this technically being a street circuit.. it's more of a mixed corner/fast circuit and probably won't penalise the Red Bull car as such.

A good mixed circuit to show the true pace delta between the top cars.

That's the theory anyway. The reality is that the it looks to be a high chance of rain all weekend so we probably won't get a truly representative result! Could be a 'winning it by not binning it' race smile

It's a public park, but has never had the characteristics of a street track. I also think the RB will work well enough for Verstappen to win.

But I'd like to see Piastri get his first win here.

I love the Canadian GP, which has had some classic races over the years. Particularly loved Jenson’s win in 2011 (I think) and of course Lewis’ first win.

Really interested to see whether things remain close between RB, Mc and Ferrari. I’m hopeful, but only time will tell. I do wonder whether we might actually get some cracking close racing over the next 18 months only for the new regs to hand the advantage back to one or team or another, as is often the case.
2011 was an incredible race- no harm in watching it again biggrin

Remember watching that one live, cheering for Nigel, and then he just stopped after the hairpin with a quarter of a lap to go. Gutted.

Caused by Nige himself, apparently.

Wasn’t the rumour that he accidentally hit an emergency cutoff switch in the cockpit, as he was waving to the crowd going round the tight hairpin?

I do recall learning as a young karter at the time, never to celebrate until I’d seen a chequered flag!

That's what I read. Probably in Autosport. But I also I read denials of this, from the Williams team I think.

John Sutton from Williams explains what actually happened in this interview with Peter Windsor.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7Mi9FoFWT4&ab...

Short answer - No Mansell didn't hit a kill switch. He was travelling slower than expected and through a combination of other factors (including low voltage) the engine kept cutting revs lower and lower every time he tried to select a gear. He could have recovered it by selecting neutral and revving the nuts off the engine but he didn't know that. It was a scenario the engineers had never thought of or encountered in testing and was simple to program to never happen again.

I've never considered this track as a "street circuit" as it has none of the boring characteristics of city roads being used as racetracks. I also don't consider Mt Panorama Bathurst to be a street circuit, despite being a public road.

Montreal to me goes in the same category as Melbourne or Miami, a “Park” circuit that’s temporary, but looks more like a racetrack than a random street layout they had to make work. Corners have kerbs more than barriers, and runoffs are tarmac or grass before the barriers.
