Prohibiting use of wet tyres if the track is not declared wet is stupid if that is the ‘incident’ affecting Ferrari.
They are slower tyres compared to slicks, and burn up if it’s dry, so it’s not a performance gain and if a team elects to use them inappropriately then so what?
They don’t really penalise if a team uses dry tyres on a track that is not suitable (thinking back to when cars try slicks when still damp etc) as it’s not a benefit, so why does this use of ‘incorrect’ tyre being a concern only work one way?

Bit strange that they have to grind something to get the sidepod off Max’s car? They’ve been at it for a good 8-10 minutes now and the sidepod still seems to be attached.
It's just the fastner, you have to go slow enough not to damage the carbon of the panel whilst you grind the head off.The muppet should have been wearing protective glasses though.
Ferrari formally up before the beak, for putting Inters on Leclerc’s car before the track was officially declared wet.

McLaren also up for both drivers failing to follow instructions regarding escape roads.

€5,000 to the FIA Margaux fund for Ferrari, as they allowed their driver to take the wrong tyres.

Shows how much money is just sloshing about in F1, fines should come out of the budget, then they would mean something. But obviously to anyone watching the track wasn't wet, any team that thought otherwise had a vivid imagination

I'm looking forward to this race. The timing is always great for some kind of takeaway and a few beers whilst viewing.
+1 the Mrs is away this weekend so will be settling down to some beers and rubbish food to enjoy the race ![thumbup](/inc/images/thumbup.gif)
sadly I’m cycling 200 miles on Sunday, so will likely catch it from the sofa on Monday

We can all disagree with a rule, but this one is actually quite clear as it’s written down, and there’s loads of people in the team paid to understand the rule book.

“During any free practice session intermediate and wet-weather tyres may only be used after the track has been declared wet by the Race Director, following which intermediate, wet or dry-weather tyres may be used for the remainder of the session.”
The race engineer, team manager, or strategy manager, all of whom have teams back at base as well as at the circuit, should have spotted that the track had not been declared wet on the messaging system, before the car went out on Inters. One of the interns is now going to have to look out for this error every time wet-weather tyres are thinking about being used.

Sounds like a proper shambles yesterday, Police told thousands of fans that FP1 and FP2 were cancelled and stopped them accessing the circuit.

What’s the reasoning for not allowing Wet tyres on a car unless it is declared a wet track? It can’t be safety thing surely!?!
It is allowed but it has to be declared wet by race control first.Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
