Clearly no nothing about being a Ferrari driver.
Well, I meant pressure from the general public. Die hard Ferrari fans will either embrace or hate him regardless. I'm sure going into it purely as a "last year in F1" massive payday would be enough to assuage any niggling doubts.

I was gonna say, you dont go to Ferrari not to be under pressure.

A bit like joining Real Madrid.

I live in MK, Max/Perez come and go from the factory all the time, nobody notices. Everytime Carlos and Charles arrive in Maranello there are crowds. its a lot more than just a F1 team. I love the atmosphere in Maranello, even though we have won nothing since 2008, its still a romance.

Big Money move, suspect its multi year but with an option at the end of year 1
If the car is quick, he'll stay, if it is slow, or he gets beaten by CLC he'll leave having been able to do what his hero Senna couldn't do and finish his career with Ferrari.

As for Hamilton's replacement at Mercedes, well anyone powered by a Merc engine is on the cards. I suspect it'll be Piastri, with a sizeable termination fee and some free engines to Mclaren for many years.

Wonder how the Tifosi will take it? Was sat amongst them when he won in Monza in 2018 (I think), they were not impressed.

Think they'd love him regardless if he wins but I can imagine him getting a shed load of abuse if he's not performing.
Nah, he'll be a Ferrari driver so will love him forever.

Ferrari overspend incoming.
Driver salaries are not within the cost cap.
No, but I think Ferrari will throw absolutely everything at this last gasp Hail Mary.

It's in everyone's interests at the brand to make the most of it and it's been shown that it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

They'll have the fastest car on the straight in '25 without a doubt.

Life long Ferrari fan here, also not a fan of Hamilton but this actually be our best shot at winning something again since 2008!
Likewise, one of the reasons I've never liked Hamilton, is I felt he never really "paid his dues". The past few seasons, and if he can get Ferrari there or thereabouts, would address that perception I have of him.

Crash.net reporting Wolff and Allison have called a staff meeting for 2pm today for a "big announcement" so maybe he is going to Ferrari. I am fairly sure he has said he wanted to end his career there so maybe this is the start of the end of him racing.

Big slap in the face to Merc if they didn't know too much about it. Can't wait to see what they do for their driver line up in 2025.

Andrew Frankel reporting we’ll find out this afternoon, so further corroboration of the thing around the Merc meeting.

I think we know already really.

I hated Alonso before he joined the Scuderia , mainly because he beat Michael in 2005/2006 but warmed to him once he signed.

The bigger question: Who gets the 2nd seat at Merc now?

- Probably not Norris - hes just extended.
- Probably not Carlos

... Please let it be Alonso!!!

I agree with the Real Madrid analogy in terms of pressure.

But the thing is, this is a bit like Real Madrid now signing Lionel Messi. Both huge icons of their sport, but not sure they'll fit together at this point in their careers.

It would be great if he wins the WDC at Mercedes this year, then goes to Ferrari and wins there.

Not likely to happen though.

If he has another outstanding season in the Williams I think it'll be Albon.

The very reason I have always liked him. smile Despite his sometimes... difficult... behavior.

There are many possible reasons for the move. I say good luck to him. He left McL, no reason for him not to move again. He's shown himself as loyal, a number of times, but he, like the rest of us I suppose, has limits.

The bigger point is that this is probably an acknowledgement that he's at the end of his career. 2026 as his swansong?

I'm as big a fan of his as I am of any other exciting driver and I'll be sorry to see him leave the sport. I think F1 will be the poorer for it. However, the move, if it does happen, will add something for a couple of seasons.

I'm a McL supporter, which means I spit on the Ferrari pits, but that said, it'll be spicy. It might even stop many fans suggesting, at the tend of 2024, that they'll never watch F1 again.

Thats the obvious one for me, Russell is the next #1 and Alonso would just ruin the team balance
