Yup, that is my view too.

It makes no sense otherwise and also Mercedes were clearly caught somewhat unawares as they have no second driver lined up (they are working on it now of course with FIA changes).

So he must have known something big was coming, because otherwise with the Ferrari "strategy" team it makes even less sense to leave Merc. There must have been a large bit of bait and to me that was Newey.
Newey has history of saying he will leave/join another team, then changing his mind.

Lewis knows this.

Lewis choosing Ferrari had bugger all to do with what Adrian planned.

The return of Allison has made a significant step forward. They look better than Ferrari.

For 2 years we heard Lewis was involved in the car development - everything went from bad to worse.

Merc are now on the up thanks to Allison.

Sure but in my head talks were well underway etc.. and maybe even already signed.... That is what sealed the deal for Lewis.... Although I do appreciate he has often said he'd want to end his career at Ferrari.

Let's just recap the driver development angle, based on your previous posting history....

In your world:

Hamilton swanned into Mercedes in 2013 and straight into a winning car that Schumacher developed. He then had no input whatsoever in the 'glory years' from 2014-2021

However, in a massive quirk of coincidence, in 2021 Mercedes started listening to Hamilton and built a car for him in the new rules. That car isn't very successful, which is Hamilton's fault obviously.

Now the car is getting better. This, again obviously, is because they've now stopped listening to Hamilton and have brought James Allison back in to fix things.

That about sums it up I think?

Resigning of Stroll just proves they're not a serious outfit.

Surely newey wouldn't be tempted to go work with an aging Alonso and the owners son if going to the most historic team in F1 was on the cards.

Pretty much spot on although missing some random references to 'Anthony' and 'Uncle Ron'.

Agreed. It's hard to take them too seriously while they inadvertently present the team as the ultimate kid's toy. Stroll isn't a disaster of a driver by any stretch but he's prone to long periods of being way off form and even when on form has too many mistakes in him and is averagely quick at best. As long as he is in the team, the inadvertent public message is one of zero ambition. I hope Newey doesn't end up there. It would be an absolute triumph of money talking much like all the footballers who have always dreamt of playing in Saudi Arabia.

It's not all that different from Red Bull really. One superstar and one journeyman. Similar result.

Ferrari can surely match any number that AM wants to pay him, and give the opportunity to work for the world’s most famous team and the greatest driver of all time in a dream team? He probably wouldn’t need to spend all that much time in Italy, and I’m sure his fancy new boat has Starlink internet anyway.

stuck record aside, how can you imagine Red Bull are showing zero ambition, while enjoying massive success?

They have a similar situation with the drivers. Perez is better than Stroll, but neither of them is near the top tier.

I do not deny Red Bull's relentless success, with what's been (until very recently) a massively dominant car, so you need not be upset.
