Right then, I don't know if this has been covered before but.....

All you guys rave about Optimax as the fuel of champions.... I was wondering what the big difference between this and other Super Unleaded fuels is?

Answers on a postcard......

Have you tried it yet?
I had a noticable difference in engine response when accelerating compared to any other fuel, although I was sceptical before I tried it, I was quite impressed with it.

Top up with French equivalent and you notice the same difference again, over there recently on my motorbike, I thought something was wrong with the engine after filling up because it sounded so different, then when i rode it, i realised the different sound was the bike firing harder, such a difference in straight line performance and noise.

No, not tried it yet as I've never had a car worth bothering with.

I'm just about to pick up an Impreza so looked into the fuel recommendations. They are vague to say the least. Apparently what we call regular unleaded passes for super in some countries and vice versa.

Thought I'd stick with super, but wanted to know if it's worth the extra hassle to find a Shell garage.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll give it a go.

Is that so? I was over in France last weekend and didn't bother finding a Shell garage because I assumed they would't sell Optimax. Seem to remeber it being made at the refineryin Liverpool (or somwhere) ? Rich...

Ellesmere Port is the Shell refinery near liverpool

Optimax is available in a few countries (as stated on the Shell website) - you can get higher octane fuels though - 100RON at Silverstone though it is about £2/litre.
