Going to look at a car on Sunday with buying it in mind.It is a fair trip and was hoping not to go twice but have noticed tax expires day before.
Question is I can either ask seller to tax it before viewing,go twice if I purchase car which is almost certain or can I legally drive it home you use to get some days grace many years ago but I dont think that applies anymore.

No reason why the seller can't tax it but obviously there's a cost involved and you may choose not to buy it so he may not be keen.

If you want to do it in one trip, do the viewing without tax (it's at the seller's risk) then if you want to buy, purchase the tax online.
