I spotted this Opel in Rome just before Christmas - any idea what it is?

Blatantly copied and pasted:

Auto Car | 2007 Opel GT | The modern definition of an athletic two-seater finds its form in the new Opel GT. As a classic roadster, it has a powerful front-mounted engine, rear-wheel drive, a cockpit with sporty instruments and a tailor-made fabric roof. With a wide stance, sleek silhouette, long, front-hinged hood and short overhangs, the proportions are typical of this class. The Opel GT also brings new charm to this genre with its own unmistakable personality thanks to its exciting shape, which contrasts sharp edges with curved surfaces to create a dynamic look, and its configuration, which enables a refined driving experience, even on long journeys. The new two-seater carries its legendary name because it continues the tradition of the first Opel GT (1968 - 1973) and, like the original, competes in one of the most exciting vehicle classes.

Looks very similar to the USA model the Saturn, part of GM group I think. I saw one in Baku recently, nice looking car.

Looks sort of like a Chrysler crossfire (if you use a bit of imagination hehe), i like it though.

Edit, actually seeing it in red it looks nothing like a crossfire hehe

I saw a yellow one last year in Berlin. I thought at the time it was a model that hadn't been released here yet.

I spotted a few of these in Lanzarote in September!

It was actually my gf who said "ooh what's that?" thinking I was some sort of Petrolhead who'd know and all I could say was "I haven't got a bloody clue!".

They look really good in the flesh.

The power of PH! hehe

It's all coming back now with the Saturn link, I suspect that is why we never got it here as it was too difficult to move the steering wheel over. Nice looking car though...I used to drool over an original GT that was in my town.

Rome drivers, crazy! Some wonderful cars about including Police Maseratis and then a 458 that drove right down the wrongside of 4 lanes of traffic, got to the red lights at the end and went straight through with a round of clapping from the Police who were parked there!!!

It's the same car that was sold in the US, differently badged of course, as the Saturn Sky & the Pontiac Solstice.

Yes, I saw one about a year ago parked up at Corley services on the M6. Had to Google 'Opel roadster' when I got home to find out what it was....

Nice looking in the flesh.

Not even vaguely related to the VX220 in anything but engines. Totally different chassis.

It was the replacement for the VX220. Obviously it's a different chassis, the engine is at the other end, to start with. smile

Shame they didn't tool up for Vauxhall and Holden for some RHD models, otherwise it might've sold well in UK, OZ and Japan.. Could've been a nice competitor to the MX5 as they're similar price in the US..
