I'm currently thinking about buying another car, really not sure what though, have the following in mind -

Porsche 924 turbo
BMW 2002
Jaguar XJS
Jaguar XJ6 / 12 (series 1-3)

Requirements are as follows -
Must be manufactured 1960s-1980s
I'm a bit of a badge snob so no Vauxhall Vivas etc roflwink
Fancy something a bit different to my usual lot - MGs / Porsches (yes, yes I know the 924 turbo is on there!)
Would be great if I can have a bit of info on XJS's - drove a couple XJ6 series 3.

Ideas smile

XJ's are a very nice barge. Untill they go wrong. The same goes for the XJS'

What about a BMW 635csi

I really fancied a 6er until I quoted up the insurance - an XJ6 or 12 about £250 for the year, the BMW is nearly a grand, if I remember rightly frown

BTW - if anyone can help me with insurance - I'm 22 years old, female, 2 cars (Porsche 944 & MGB GT), would be looking at classic insurance as it's much cheaper than the mainstream (or seems to be)!

This caught my eye, but there is no mileage stated.

How about a Jag X300 / X308?

Gorgeous retro looks, but yet a more modern ownership proposition?

Fair do's you have better taste in cars than most females of a similar age

out of the listed cars above the Jag would be the one I reccomend but you really have to find a good one nowadays that isnt rotten

On the porshce theme.......944?

Im very experienced with Jags and I can state that mileage isnt a problem for a well maintained 6 cylinder. Seen many past 220k and still strong

It's a gorgeous colour, and if only motorway miles (I'm assuming six figures), then the full dealer history would be mean it's worth a punt imho.

Ecurie - Had a look at X300s when I first started looking but insurance seems to be high as I can't get classic insurance for one, any idea who to go through?

Not willing to pay silly insurance! - paid over £3000 to insure a Boxster S when I was 18/19 - never again lol!

I do really rather like that XJS - it has the same 4.0ltr as the XJ40 doesn't it? AJ6??

On the subject of that 2002 turbo - In my dreams! cloud9

Admitted it's looking for rot on anything of the age I like frown Porsches aren't so rot free as everyone likes to think, have seen people buy countless 80's front engined Porsche and need sills both sides come MOT time frown!

Currently I've seen 5 series 3 XJ6s ... 1 was beautiful and wanted far too much, 1 was a wreak, 1 had great bodywork and a knackered gearbox and 1 I nearly dealt on subject to me checking out a tapping noise with Jag specialist, after I did ... I didn't bother with the car!

Already have a 944 smile

Were very early XJS XK powered or where they the first cars produced with the AJ6?

Will be doing a fair amount of mileage about 12,000 in this one, so would like something not too unreliable and comfortable but I don't like blending in with the crowd wink

Don't have anywhere near that sort of money frown To be fair I'm not so sure a 2002 would really be ideal but if I like it I'd keep it for a bit if I didn't it'd just go straight up for sale, one of those cars that if you buy at the right price you shouldn't have much trouble getting rid of!

At the moment I really fancy a Jag, went through the phase a bit ago went to look at loads, didn't buy one in the end, went off the idea for a bt now back on it again, perhaps I just ought to try it, do worry that I'd really struggle to sell a Jag though if I get bored of it after a couple of months!

Hi

My X300s are both insured on classic policies with Peter Best insurance. Both are around £200 for comprehensive insurance with unlimited miles.
