Selling used cars at the minute?
Discussion
Okay, bear with me as I'm just back from the club..
A good friend of mine is looking rid of his 2005 Renault Clio, he said he'd sell it to me for £1500 to avoid any sort of hassle with getting rid of it (He's mad to get a new car - Currently looking at MX5, RX8). On eBay etc similar cars are going for a good bit over £2500.
He'll be over tomorrow so I'll get a better look at it then, but I'm wondering what the market is currently like for selling cheap used cars?
The problem is that I'm back to Liverpool on the 10th of January and I don't know what it would be like trying to sell a car that's back home (Northern Ireland), or possibly getting my Dad to sell it whilst I'm away.. The money I'd be buying it with is money I have saved for an MX5, but it could easily make me quite a nice bit of money on top.
If he's genuinely serious about letting it go so cheap to avoid hassle I'll probably buy it..

It's not the quickest market at the moment and some cars don't seem to be moving at all. I've been looking at various Subarus, 3.0 Legacy not shifting at all and good Foresters (particularly the rare STI) are selling faster than I can get to the damn phone!
So I would say it is down to a number of factors, desirability of the car, rarity of the car and of course the asking price.

What size engine had it got? We had a lot of trouble selling a 1.6 Clio a few years ago - people looking for a cheap small car don't want a "big" engine.
If it's in good nick etc then the price sounds very cheap. Are you sure he'll let it go for that when it comes to the crunch?
This one's a 1.2 Petrol, and insurance group 2. Which is why I'm so tempted, it sounds like it falls into the perfect first car bracket for the right person. It's also black, but he says it only has part history. If it's in good nick etc then the price sounds very cheap. Are you sure he'll let it go for that when it comes to the crunch?
I'm not 100% if he would definitely be prepared to sell up at that price, but I'm willing to call his bluff anyway.
