Ok, the driver's side washer jet has stopped working (a few weeks ago actually). The windscreen still clears perfectly, squirt, leave for a second and then put the wipers on fastest setting (old school - wipers don't come on automatically thankfully). At first I thought it was just frozen but would've thought it would have sorted out by now, so does anybody have any ideas where to start? paperbag

Cheers.

probably one of the joints popped under the bonnet - lift it and have a good look while someone uses the squirters - you'll easily see any leaks

You simply have dirt stuck in it.

There is nothing in a washer jet to go wrong and the fact that the other one is working means that the pump is fine.

Easiest way to clear it is to blow some compressed air down the nozzles that are not working using one of those cans from an electronics store (I once used WD40 down the nozzle for similar effect).

What happens is the pipes from the pump to the jets are a relatively large bore and once they get to the actual nozzle the bore narrows to increase pressure (in accordance with Boyle's law (or one of those named ones anyway!))unfortunately what that means is that if you have some dirt traveling down the pipe then it always get stuck there (as it is the narrowest point) blocking it.

Or is you are really feeling flush you can buy a new one.

Either dirt in the nozzle, or the hose has fallen off the bottom of it or the side of the T-piece where it splits for the two jets, I'd imagine.

I remove dirt from the nozzle with a narrow but long notice board pin. Just carefully scrape out then 'flush' with a few blasts of washer fluid. The jets on my daily driver reqularly get blocked with all the crud flying around on motorways at the moment.

If it's really clogged, try throwing a can of red bull at it. (Someone had to say this)
